Black Hills 357 Mag
Has anybody used the Black Hills 125 Grain JHP 357 Magnum load?
I'm seriously considering this as my carry load in 357 Magnum. http://www.black-hills.com/factorynew.htm Biker ![]()

Haven't tried it. I've been going with Speer 125 Grain gdhp for carry in 357 mag.

.357
Haven't tried that specific load, but the specs for the 125gr (the weight I prefer in .357) look typical for that weight. Looks like an XTP bullet to me, but I didn't see for sure on the site.

Per my conversation w/ a factory rep, they are using XTP bullets, old stock (+2yrs) are gold dot.

I saw where this load and round was rated to have 625 ft/lbs of energy.
That's a lot more than even the Corbon 125 Grain loads. I'm thinking it may be like the 357 Mag load of "yesteryear". Today's loads are "reduced" from what they used to be, from what I can tell. Biker ![]()

The Black Hills load is the only load I've found that gives over 600 ft/lbs of energy in the 125 Grain 357 Magnum. Federal and Remington "dance" close, but not over the 600 mark.
I hope I never have to find out how it works on the street for real. Biker

I don't know if I have used that specific load or not, but I have fired both new and remanufactured Black Hills in various calibers. It is first quality stuff. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to use it as carry ammo.

I've shot a lot of Black Hills out of the M4. It's good ammo, both the reloaded stuff and the "new" stuff.
I've seen some guys lately that scare the crap out of me and it's made me even more "ammo selective" than I normally am. I am not having any "problems" per se, just want the best ammo that I can accurately shoot that will stop any situation I may encounter Off-Duty. Biker ![]()

www.DoubleTapAmmo.com
They've got some .357 Mags with 125 Gold Dots doing 1600 out of a 4" and 1425 out of a 1 7/8" - that's in the 700 ft/lbs range. I haven't shot their .357 Mags but I did go through a few boxes of their .45 ACP. Its good quality ammo IME, low flash, high power etc.. Accurate too at least in my gun. Austin |
