Hornady 125gr XTP?

I went to a gunshop that I normally do not frequent because of the distance but happen to stop in since I was in town for other reasons. Anyway, I asked the sales clerk for a box of defensive .357 Magnum rounds and he sells me a box of Hornady 125gr XTP. Isn't the XTP line of Hornady considered their hunting line?

Thanks,
Dave

IMO yes it has that label often. I would not use this design of bullet in lower velocity rounds such as 9mm std pressure for example .. but do think that when you get up to fps levels around 1400, 1500 etc then they are probably quite useful.

So - for a .357 I reckon they could be Ok, altho perhaps a bullet design more like the speer GD would better and open up more easily - the XTP does seem to require a lot of ''oomph'' to deform adequately.

Better yet these days is perhaps the EJMF type bullet. JMHO.

Since I carry the SP101 2.25" I reckon I should look for some GD's, Federals or Winchesters...

Thanks P95Carry.

I suggest www.streichers.com they usually have a good selection in stock and at competitive prices. Gun stores generally carry whats convenient for them. I recommend Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel - either in .357 or .38+P

I use XTP in 9mm when its the least costly one in the store when I'm buying.

It goes bang, it feeds the next round and hits the target to make a hole.

It is what it is: Handgun Ammo.

Rifles & shotguns make hamburger; service pistols just make holes.

The boxes of XTP that I own have small spec sheets in them stating that they will expand from 800+ Fps to 1400 Fps.

When they first came out, that was one of the major selling points. The only thing Ive ever killed with an XTP was a coyote and a squirrle and each bullet blew a nice big exit hole though each one.
