Last week I got a new short reset trigger for my Blackwater. I've been dry firing it to smooth it out. I had just cleaned the weapon and forgot that I'd reloaded it. A senior moment, if you will. I took it out of the safety for some dry firing and BAM, right into the floor. I have always been good about press checking for a round in the chamber, but I didn't this time. Rule number 2 saved my ass.

Anybody know how much a plumber is going to charge for replacing four feet of copper pipe?

Sounds like a very simple job. You could DIY with a tube cutter, a small propane torch, solder, a 4' length of copper tube, a couple of joint/sleeves. Assuming it's just a single, straight-run length of pipe that needs replacing, you're talking about one length of pipe and two joints. Might take you 30-40mins from start to clean-up, going carefully and triple-checking your work. That amounts to ~$30 for the parts, $25 for the tools, plus the time. A plumber would probably charge an hour's minimum fee (even though it's a 10-15min job tops), plus the on-site charge, plus materials at 2x pricing, which altogether could be 4-5x the cost of doing it yourself.

Here is short overview/video that describes the process: EasyDIY. Or, you can pick up any one of a half-dozen different guides at the home improvement center (ie, Lowe's, Home Depot).

Out of curiosity...

Was it a +p round or standard pressure?

Did you recover the round?

Just food for thought ... My personal manual of arms is to NEVER dry fire a weapon with the mag in it ( yes i know some have mag safetys , they do not get dry fired at all ) . If no mag its most likely unloaded but i still check chamber . The empty magwell serves as a visual cue only but this habit has saved me from more than one nd i suspect .
