Before I turned 21, I bought 9 mils at Walmart on multiple occasions. I was IDed every time and still they sold it to me. There was never a question about the weapon.

Then she scans the next box (.40 S&W) and again, mechanically asks, like she's reading from a script, "is this for a handgun?". Again, DUH! It's .40 caliber S&W so, I'm thinking, WTH do you think? Then the last box is .357 magnum, and when she asked, I just said yes and went on my way.
Now I'm wondering why they ask that. Is it a company policy? Anyone else been asked that question? Why does Wal-Mart need to know, or care, what type of weapon I intend to use the ammo in?
Their prices are good but if this keeps up I will find another place to shop for ammo.
Too bad I wasn't buying 9mm, I could have said, "no, its for an Uzi", just to see her reaction.
The wally world here only sells shotgun shells and rifle rounds. I've yet to see a PA Walmart sell handgun ammo. I generally go to Gander to get handgun ammo, and no they don't ask.

Never had any issues to date with purchasing ammo.

I will say, I'm disapointed lately in LACK of being ID'd. I smoke ciggerettes, and usually will pick them up at 711,Wa-Wa,Sheetz or Uppys On the Run.

Wawa is the ONLY one that IDs me EVERYTIME b/c the clerk actually has to scan my ID before they can make the product sale. I've noticted even when I buy alcohol I don't get carded.

NOW,...I'm 21, I've got dark brown hair, roughly 5' 10",160lbs (broad shoulders, skinny) covered with tattoos, earrings/peircings, often wearing offensive attire (to some people.)

Was buying .223 ammo for my AR one day cause I was headed to the range and forgot to grab some so I stopped on the way. Well, I wanted to buy 200 rd's 20 box's and the dude behind the gun counter say's he can't sell me that much! I asked why and he said cause of all the school shootings. I kid you not! Didn't even know what to say other than, keep it, I'm done with walfart.

HAHAHA! My last ammo purchase at Wal Mart was 2 boxes of 9mm. You guessed it- 100 rounds each!

I guess it's the box count, not the round count?

The guy at the Walmart gun counter said it's actually harder to buy smokes than ammo. He said the age range they have to card for is actually higher for smokes.

No, it's the dumba$$ count - and all it takes is one.
