Depends on the gun. My criteria is not how big they open up in gelatin or what sort of pretty shape they form in a perfect world. My criteria is do they always feed without fail, do they hit where I point and do they exhibit enough penetration. I prefer some sort of expanding bullet to help prevent carry through and to insure the energy gets spent in the target.

In my Commander the best so far is a 200 gr Federal EFMJ with Wilson mags.

In my Micro it's 230 gr Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel Loads with factory mags.

In my S&W 638 it's either Double Tap 125 gr +P (with Speer Gold Dot low velocity hollow points) or Speer Gold Dot 135 gr +P Short Barrel Loads.

G19 with 124+P Gold Dots, just because they work well.
BHP with 180 Gold Dots, out of habit, the gun prefers Silvertips.
442 with 135+P Gold Dots, good reputation and design for a snubby.
Tomcat .32 with Fed. FMJ, I worry about penetration with the pipsqueek.

I use this ammo because it cranks muzzle energy of 540#, penetrates well and expands well.
