.45ACP / Hornady TAP 230 +P. Considering a move to CCI/Speer GoldDot 230 non+P.
.40S&W / Winchester 180 JHP. Really prefer Fed HydraShock 180 but ran out.

230 grain Federal HST Cause it is so purdy see avatar and it is the very last I'd want, most horrible thing I can imagine being shot with.

.40 S & W
165 gr. Remington Golden Sabers 155gr. Speer Gold Dots 155gr. Hornady TAP-FPD I currently use the above interchangeably, depending on my "mood," and they all work and group very well through my Sig 229. |

In .40, it depends on what I can get. In 2004, after I broke-in my P229 with FMJ, I put a couple hundred rounds of Remington 165-grain Golden Saber .40 S&W ammo through it, and stayed with that for several years. That had been my duty and carry load in my duty Glocks since 2002. Now, that load is hard to find, and I just bought several different 155- and 165-grain loads to make sure my first P229 and my newer one will work OK with them, and see which I like best.
In .357, I have long used Federal silver box 125-grain JHP loads, though that load is starting to get tiresome through my lighter SP101 and Speed Six revolvers, so I now use the Federal stuff only in my heavier GP100 sixguns, and use the Winchester 145-grain Silvertips most of the time in my EDC revolvers. STHP also shoots better to point-of-aim in my fixed-sight guns. |

In .45
1. Federal Tactical Bonded 230gr +P 2. Federal Tactical HST 230gr +P 3. Federal Tactical Hydra-Shok 230gr In .40 1. Federal Tactical Bonded 165gr or 180gr or 155gr 2. Federal Tactical HST 165gr or 180gr or 155gr 3. Federal Tactical Hydra-Shok 165gr. * I mostly carry the bonded rounds ,but I throw the HSTs into rotation also. I have confidence in the HydraShoks, BUT they stay in storage because the newer Federal rounds (Bonded and HSTs)seem to be outperforming the older tech Hydra-Shoks. |
