Need Info On Speer LE Gold Dot

I was browsing on ammunition to go's web site and came across Speer LE Gold Dot in 50 round boxes and Gold Dot 20 round boxes. The 20 round boxes are much more expensive and I was wondering why and what the difference is beside quantity.

I've bought the 50 rd boxes at local gun shows recently for $20. Have several 20 rd boxes bought at local gun shop for almost $20. Chronographed and wetpack tested both and couldn't tell any difference in performance. Probably shot 100 rd out of 50 rd boxes with no problems.

My dept uses Gold Dot and it comes in 50 round boxes. The only difference as far as I know is that the 50 round boxes were inteneded for LE and the 20 round boxes for the civilian market. Guess they figured civilians don't buy 50 round boxes anymore. There is no difference between the 2 except it cost more to get 50 rounds buying the 20 round boxes (Duh). And you wind up with 60 rounds.

Why buy 20 at a time when you could buy 50? You can never have enough ammo, and it's a lot cheaper per round to buy the 50 round boxes. Same exact stuff.

Because alot of people want only enough ammo to load a mag or two. I have seen this alot. I think they are nuts....you can never have enough ammo.

All too true, unfortunately. (Well, unfortunate if they are "good guys" as opposed to criminals.) My agency, though quite large and otherwise modern, requires us to buy our own duty pistols and ammunition, and while this is certainly fine with me, I am dismayed when my co-workers buy a new pistol, fire 60 rounds of FMJ on the qual course, and then buy just enough duty-type ammo to fill two magazines. No further test-firing. Sad. At least many modern pistols tend to work well out of the box, with JHP ammo. In the days of 1911s, Browning HPs, and first-generation S&W autos, such practices could be a recipe for disaster.

As for private citizens, it is even worse, as nobody is making them fire a 60-round qual course. I have seen them buy an autopistol, and then just one box of 20. Trying to explain the concepts of test-firing and break-in results in a blank look, or an accusation that the store just wants to make more money by selling unecessary ammo. Some want just enough to fill one magazine. I hope they have very attentive guardian angels.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping there was no difference except the price. I will be ordering some and giving them a try.
