I don' think I would use any +P in the older P38s. Speer Makes a Non +P 124 gr Gold Dot that should work good, if it will feed in your P38s. A lot of the older P38s would not feed Hollow Points, you may have to stick to hard Ball.

The Federal 115gr+P+ is 9BPLE and is really not super hot. Federal does not push the envelope, but does the job.

Feeding should be fine in about anything that feeds nato ball 100%.

Last time I clocked the 9BPLE, about a year ago, it was 1330fps from a BHP, and the time before that was in 1989 just after the ammo became available, and from a Glock 17, 1310fps.

Different guns, chronos, temp, BP, all contribute to different chrono results.

Personal preference is Corbon 115 gr (they use the Speer HP, IIRC).
When I carry 9mm (rarely) my first mag is always MAGSAFE prefrangible and my backups are wither 115gr Federal HydraShok or more likely 115gr COR-BON +P (something like 1400fps?) RBCD is supposed to make an awesome load in both 9mm & 45.

Winchester 115gr Silvertip Hollowpoints. Absolute reliability in feed and function in my Browning HP. Back up load is Federal 115gr JHP 9BP load.

I'm not comfortable in using +P's in my early 80's era BHP and am not uncomfortable in using either of these 2 loads for defensive purposes.

124 gr Gold Dots, have adequate penetration, most accurate out of my gun of the high end JHPs, and since they are not +P's, my FMJ practice ammo goes to the same point of impact & have the same recoil.

My main 9mm carry loads are as follows:
Federal +P 124 EFMJ
Federal +P 124 HST
CorBon +P 115 JHP
They work the best out of my E9.

Thumbs up By The Way........

My Intention is to just print this entire thread out & hand it over.
I'll let him choose after he reads all of your suggestions.
See how I'm staying out of Hot Water on this?
I'll give him the educated info & let him decide!

I avoid 9mm ball for the ''usual'' reason, the penetration excess issue.
I second that.

I like Hydrashock 124gr.

Anybody has real life info about Federal's EFMJ? Seems to be the nest of both worlds on paper.

Article about Federal EFMJ
