For defense rounds any high quality hollow point that will feed in your weapons.

.22 for plinking. Any copper jacket bulk round.

A hit with even a small caliber is better than a miss with a big caliber.

Cor-Bon DPX, Winchester Ranger Talon, Federal Tactical Bonded, Federal HST or Speer Gold Dot.

Go with either of those and you will never go wrong, unless for some reason the bullets won't feed in your weapon.

Choose a high quality name brand hollow point, and one priced were you can practice with the round making sure it feeds without any issues and is accurate.

I like Federal EFMJ; 124gr for 9mm and 200gr for .45ACP are both available from the AmmoMan.
