Good .45 Colt SD Loads
Can anyone recommend some good SD loads in .45 Colt for a Taurus Judge 410/.45 with a 3" barrel?

Loads
Federal lists a lead HP that shoots good in lots of different guns. My personal choice.
Federal Premium Ballistics But it is old technology and plain. If you prefer something fancy, try: Detail Page for Part # 23984 I looked at Cor Bon, but all they list is "+P" which I guess means no 1870s vintage Colts or something, not sure if your gun is rated for high performance stuff. They list Glasers, JHP and DPX in .45 Colt. Dakota Ammo -- Glaser 1-800-626-7266 |

You might consider the standard pressure "heavy" .45 Colt loads from Buffalo Bore. They're a bit pricey, but hardly any good ammo is cheap these days.

Thank you gentlemen, there are more choices than just the cowboy loads.

I got some Winchester Western Silvertip 225 grain hollow points yesterday to load up for self defense.

An assailant can be said to be having a very bad day if he's fairly hit with any .45 Colt load.
I don't generally stoke up my only .45 Colt for defensive duties and would use handloaded 250 grain SWC's if I did but have tried both the Federal and Winchester loads mentioned above that feature a 225 grain hollow point bullet and they were acceptably accurate and easily controllable. They look like a good choice. |
