Got a pond or canal nearby? Penetrating oil will NOT render powder or primers inactive from the outside of a round unless you've got a gallon of it and and a couple of years to wait. I would really hate to see or hear about an accidental discharge of a round that could have easily been avoided. It also sounds like your wife sees it that way too.

water doesn't always work most military ammo has sealed bullets and primers to keep moisture from penetrating,Navy seals want their guns to go bang when they pull the trigger,ask some nam vets how often their ammo got wet and submerged during patrols during monsoon season
