Ok, I'm a little bummed now. I keep on reading that the shortage is diminishing. I stopped at Bass Pro today and nothing on the shelf. I stopped at Wal-Mart after work and nothing there either. There was a sign at Bass Pro attempting to explain why there was no ammo. Basically blaming it on supply and demand. This is truly amazing.

I had the crazy thought to go to the range and shoot my 9mm this morning. Of course the result is that I went to WW and they had no ammo, so I went to one local shop. American Eagle FMJ was priced at $32.50 for a box of 50. I laughed in the guy's face and walked out the door.

I then went to another gun shop and their WWB was priced at $24 per box of 50.

I decided I didn't need to shoot afterall and went home and cut the grass.

The lady at WW told me to come in after 4:30 and see if any came in on the truck, so I went back at 5pm and lo and behold they had 5 100 count boxes of WWB, $19.97 each. They were just putting it on the shelf when I walked up and some elderly gentleman was right behind me.

I bought one box of 100, and when I told the clerk I only wanted one, he looked at me like I was crazy. "Are you sure one is all you want?" he asked. I said "Yeah, I'm usually pretty sure about what I want. I just want some to take to the range and shoot." He said, "Well if you do that you'll be out again." I said, "No I won't, I'll have the same amount that I had before I bought these, so can you please just ring them up?"

Then the old guy asked for 2 boxes. So within 5 minutes of them hitting the shelf, WW was down to 2 boxes of 9mm left.

They also got in 5, 100-count boxes of WWB 380. I hadn't seen .380 in six months.

Now I can go shoot my 9mm tomorrow maybe.

I've got 140 miles or so to drive tomorrow from Cincinnati to south of Lexington, Ky. I'm going to stop at every Walmart near the highway on the way back and scope out the ammo situation.

And if it's a female greeter, I don't care how old, I'm giving her a smack on the ass on the way out.

after a bunch of phone calls and some in store investigative work, ive learned a lot about walmart procedures.

this is just for my area, but may apply to others

they start to stock the shelves around 8-9PM. sporting good closes at 10pm, reopens at 7am. seems the best time to get there would be around 9:30PM. i'm thinking because ammo is controlled, it gets stocked quickly. so far the only thing ive managed to get was 200 rounds of 40 for a buddy who only had 20 rounds left.

You're the true definition of "FRIEND." I hope your buddy realizes that maybe, if the balloon goes up, you just gave him a serious shot at surviving, all things being equal.

Unfortunately, on my drive down to Hustonville, KY and back to Cincinnati I only had time to stop at one Walmart. A supercenter in Danville, KY. Picked up 2 boxes of .40 for $12.47 a box. The guy in sporting goods said that they had received a case of .380 at the beginning of the week and it was the first time he'd seen any since the beginning of the year, so maybe things are starting to improve a bit.

And ammo is age restricted, not controlled. Some stores do not even use the locking case for ammo anymore.

Guys, relax. It was a joke. I think most people got it, I guess you two didn't...

Anyway, cruised down to Louisville today for the gun show. Stopped on the way back at the La Grange exit in KY to pick up a soda and noticed a Walmart supercenter. Stopped in to see what they had. .40 Blazer Brass was on the shelf and I picked up a box for $12.47. Asked the guy if they had any .380 and he said that they received 2 cases about a week and a half ago but it had all sold by the next day. In the rotating display case they used to use for the rifles they had a bunch of 9mm and some more .40

For what it's worth...
