Mostly, I order by bulk on-line.

I've got 1,000 rounds of 380's coming from Cabelas and 1,000 rounds of 380's coming from Sportsman's Guide.

Ship date is mid-July.

Let's just say that my supplies are better than good.
Patti, I'm with ya. I'm tired of hitting up Walmart to see empty shelves. I just placed a big order with Cabela's and when it gets here it gets here. I've got enough .380 and .40 to keep me happy, and I picked up a Walther P22 to throw in the mix.

My two WM have most what I need except bulk 22 LR.

I did get 6 boxes of Wichester Xpert HV, for the first time since March, this past Saturday.

I tried to buy the case.

I noticed that 12 & 20 gauge birdshot is still $22 for 100 rounds. I wonder how long that will last.

A 9mm may expand, but a .45 will never shrink.

Renton Walmart stocks only 9mm and 40 caliber ammo....so I am giving up shopping there for it. The federal way one has only rifle ammo.

*sigh*

anyone else in WA find any 45 acp ammo there?

Hi,

I go to the one in Lynnwood and they have had 9mm on and off. I will check out the 45 acp ammo the next time and let you know. I am sitting on about 600 rounds of 9mm and I don't like to get much lower then that.

none here in VT at wallyworld. The only ammo I have bought there in a few months is .22 minimags.
There is one shop nearby that has a bunch of pistol ammo but it is way overpriced...18.00 for 5o rnds of wolf 9mm for example. Too much IMO. My real hope is that reloading components start to become available again soon. No small pistol primers in months...

Even odds they have, it just sold out fast.

I checked with the Local Walmart Sierra Vista AZ today. again nothing. Shelves are empty.

Clerk stated they didn't even get one box of ammo off the truck last night.

The only problem I have is the clerk has refused to look me in the eyes for at least a month when talking about ammo. Maybe he is just tried of being asked.

I asked politely

Well I spoke to an assistant manager at my local store, because a few months ago I asked if it was due to increased military demand. He laughted at me (nothing rude) and showed me something he had printed off showing how much stock had been on hand, sold, and received it various weekly periods. It showed that plenty of ammo was on hand 6 months ago (that would be 8 to 9 months ago from todays date). Then from November to January they could no longer keep ammo in stock. The sales were the same, but the days out of stock (I don't remember the term he used) increased.

Then, it just so happened, the reason the manager had the sheet, was because he had just received in many cases of blazer brass (they normally carry Winchester at my local store) 9mm, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP. My wife has a 9mm, so I bought a box (on 3/8/09) so we could give it a try. I returned later and all that was left was a box of 40 S&W, 3 boxes of 9mm, and 2 boxes of .45 ACP. I purchased the 40 S&W (even though I don't have a firearm of this caliber) and two boxes of the 9mm. That was on 3/19/09 (I track my ammo purchases).

Since then I have spoken to that same assistant manager. He stated that they do get in a few cases about once a month. He has considered hiding it, as he is a little worried about theft, but since people ask daily, and there is no policy limiting how many boxes a person can buy, they don't even take it out of the case boxes.

He did state he has/ not received .357 Sig. I also asked about 9mm, 40 S&W, and .45 ACP. He stated he still receives about two cases a/ month, but they sell in less than two days, often only a few people see it, as they tend to buy the entire case.

I asked if he could give me a call when it came in. He told me that he did not want to get into that, because he really is asked that question daily, and he does not want to "...open that can of worms." I asked if he had considering limiting the number of boxes. He said, "...just another can of worms." I asked if he thought some of the other associates might be giving people a call, he answered an honest, "...maybe. I don't really want to know." I asked if he though the associates might be hiding in. He said something like, "I can't be sure, if I observed it I would tell them not to, but at the same time, we might need to start locking it up." He also stated that he noticed that they stopped even putting it on the shelf, and just leave the cases on the counter for a day or two and they are gone.

He had treated me right, so I thanked him for his time, and stated I thought he was handling it right.

Now, I don't know if things have changed in the last month or two, but I'm willing to believe it is about the same. I went to Wal-Mart a few days ago. No pistol ammo.

Thanis, I've asked at various stores at various times and no one is telling me that they are getting regular deliveries of handgun ammo but guys are running in and buying it all up right away. What they are telling me is that they are getting in very little or none, and then naturally the tiny amount they do get in is sold right away.

I don't know why the NRA would say that the reason for the ammo shortage is "hording/stockpiling" (where did they say that?). I can tell you one thing, nobody is hording/stockpiling .380's from the stores around here, because there just isn't any, or the small stores that do have some are asking whatever they can get.

Easy to find.

AR :: AmericanRifleman.org - Where Have All The Primers Gone?

Note what this article states about .380, "...One of the most in demand calibers is .380 ACP, for which new firearm designs increased interest exponentially....The surge demand in .380 ACP caught forecasters at the ammunition companies flat-footed."

NRA-ILA :: Heavy demand for guns, ammo puts strain on supply chain
NRA-ILA :: Increased demand causing ammunition shortages

And many more.

Joe, I know people who have been hoarding/stockpiling .380 for months. I'm a .357 Sig user, and like you, have had trouble finding my round. I have yet to hear from a Wal-Mart, Bass-Pro, etc. that they have been receiving in .357 Sig, .380 ACP, .38 Spl, etc.

However, contrary to what they are telling you, they have been receiving 9mm, 40 S&W, and .45 ACP (I have also been told .44 Mag SD rounds). It flies off the shelf.

I've also been told the employees are just tired of being asked about ammo, to hold ammo, etc. So many just say no, have not received any, or, they really have not seen it, because they are not around when it comes in.

Some stores hold it for customers on a list (and don't want to argue with people looking for ammo, so they just say we have none), some employees are grabbing it for their own use, or for friends. I've never witnessed this first hand, but I've worked retail, and I'm sure it happens. In addition, I'm willing to believe some employees buy it and sell it for more.

Maybe the stores you have been going to really have not been receiving ammo. However, just sharing that a number of stores in my area have been receiving the calibers I listed, I have seen printed reports at one Wal-Mart that cleary showed product is arriving, I know people who aquired a box or two, by the time I get there, it is gone.
