147 +P HST is like next to impossible to get. I have never actually seen it for sale.

Last year I bought 1,000 rounds of it(P9HST4 147gr +p). Then when the election neared, ALL HST was sold out everywhere very quickly.

I also have some P45HST2 (.45acp 230gr)on hand for use in my .45acp weapons.

My current round of choice is Cor-Bon DPX 115gr +p 9mm and I load my 1911 with Cor-Bon DPX 185gr +p.

I normally carry GD's in my weapons, but I recently ran across the Federal Tactical Bonded round.

Is this Tactical Bonded round the bonded version of the HST?

I'm asking because a google search didn't reveal all that much.

My wife carries 147g SPG in her Taurus 709.
I carry 115g Hornady Critical Defense in my S&W 908.

I have a box of HST's on order but they have been back ordered for about 2 months.

Something to note. I think part of the reason that ballistics comes up often on this forum (and any other gun forum) is that many CCW'ers much like "gear heads" are tweakers. While we know that we never will attain perfection we like to try to get as close to it as possible so we are always looking for that 1-2 percent performance increase. Frankly, I LOVE this aspect of being a gun owner. It gives me something to research (Which I enjoy doing) and it gives me something to talk about with other like minded people.

Here's a good place to find unbiased infor on various rounds:

Best Choices for Self Defense Ammo

ammunitiontogo.com has had plenty of HST's in the past. However, right now they only seem to have in .40.

For real world test results go here: LE - Wound Ballistics

Wow! Looking at that wound tract comparrison between the calibers makes wonder about the effectiveness of the 9mm :( I've always been a 9 guy but that makes me sad.

I would like to say that I have not used any of the above rounds in 9mm, as I do not own nor shoot any guns in that caliber. On the other hand, I have and use a lot of both the Fed HST+P's and the 230 Speer GD. In my opinion they are both very close to equal in both the accuracy dept. and from what I have heard and read about them, they both perform on a level playing field. I have fired about 2500 HST's from my G30SF's and my G21SF, and all rounds performed flawlessly. I have fired thru the same guns approx. 800 of the GD. They both have the same point of impact out of my guns. To get the best of both, I stagger them. The one in the spout is an HST followed by a GD then staggered equally from there. Whichever round you decide on, I'm sure it will perform as intended for CCW. I wish you good luck in your decision, and as always stay safe.
