This is to everyone in this post: I had the opportunity to see what a Federal Premium Personal Defense .38 special JHP 110gr. non +P bullet does to the human flesh a couple days ago while at work. Is is very nasty and pure destruction. So for all the non believers out there about this round your wrong cause ( ITS ONE MEAN SON-OF-A-GUN )!!!!!

Trebla - without trying to lead you into over morbid teritory - can you give some path' info - as to the actual wounding characteristics?

My early background is medical and I am always interested to know more - if difficult to add to a public post then PM me.

Trebla is talking about 110 grains now imagine Speer Gold dots at 135 grains or 125 grains +P. Devestating. I think most people who have never shot or seen someone automatically think that the .38 can not do the job. Well, it can I would carry what I feel good with. In Model 37 airweight I carry 125grain Speer +P because I could not find the 135 grain rounds any where.

I don't worry about damaging the gun because I carry the rounds for defense only and rarely shoot them. Now, if I do have to squeeze off the rounds the last thing I am worrying about is damage because #1 my airweight is marked +P and secondly in any civilian contact I don't plan on shooting more than 3 maybe the whole cylinder and somebody will be leaking and leaving. Moreover, I also heard through the grapevine that any +P .38 round hits close to if not as hard a 9mm round. Our problem with the snub is the amount of rounds.

P95Carry: I saw the left index finger ( first digit above the knuckle ) totally blown to pieces. The round entered through the underside of his finger, exiting out of the back of his finger. POI was small like the diameter of the .38 special rd. but the exit wound was as large as a silver dollar. The metacarpal was totally wiped out leaving a few bone fragments in the flesh. I am convinced!

Nasty!!

I take it tho this was a close range incident (accident?) - in which case I'd expect things to be pretty messy! Was it an ND or suffered during an attack?

Sorry to be so inquisitive

It was an accidental discharge up close and personal. He said he was staging the trigger and forget it was loaded. I know one thing after seeing that I am going to triple check all my firearms before handling them! I'm surprised he was talking to us cause the damage was horrific.

They are always loaded! Boy did he screw up. Sure forgot rule #2 as well - and that would have saved him a lot of pain.

Thx for the extra info.

I use either Speer 135+P Gold Dots short barrelload or CorBons 110+P JHP. Boths these loads shoot really well out of my Model 60.
