I really like the following out of my G30:
a) Federal 230 gr HSTs (+P and non +P)
b) Double Tap Bonded defense 230 gr.
c) Speer Gold Dot 200 gr JHP +P
d) Remington UMC JHP 230 gr when ther is none of a), b) or c) available
They are all really accurate, powerful and always go bang...

US Special Forces have switched back to the .45 Cal. from the 9mm according to Mr. Vickers for it's stopping power / CQB.....guess they learned.

What makes you think our boys would use HP ammo if they could....less penetration definately. I've never heard of anyone continue arguing after being hit with a 230 gr. FMJ.

Well you ain't special forces bud. If you carry fmj you better hit what your shooting at. Overpenetration with fmj should be a consideration. Not just because our military uses it. They have no choice.

The reason we know they would chose HP ammo is the same reason they can't use it. It was deemed too deadly, the UN wants bullets that increase pass through and reduce the damage the projectile does on its way through the body.

Also if you've never heard of anyone continuing to fight after being shot with a FMJ then my guess is your not researching your ammo selection enough.

For my 1911 I use Federal Premium Expanding FMJ. I use it because I know it feeds reliably in the gun and still have the expansion of a JHP. An average FMJ makes a .45 inch hole in the target and Expanding FMJ or a JHP makes roughly a .89 inch hole.

I wouldn't want to be shot with either but if I'm going to trust my life to a EDC ammo I'm going to select the one that works reliably and makes the largest hole.

Your initial post tells me all I need to know pal. It's meaning is ignorant and irresponsible at best. I worry more about gun toters like you than I do the average bad guy. FMJ is NOT for self defense in todays urban settings. Contrary to popular believe, hollow point ammo was not designed solely to create more tissue damage but was simply to prevent over penetration.

I stick to ammo that I know from experience will not jam and feeds reliably. The ammo with the best ballistics ain't worth a darn if it doesn't feed flawlessly or causes a jam. My experience is with Glock 36's and my Kimber Tactical Ultra II with it's 3" barrel. I've had good feeding and accuracy with:

230 gr Golden Saber
230 gr Hornady TAP
Glaser 165 gr PowerBall (some folks dislike these but they feed like FMJ)

I have had a few FTF's with the 165 gr CorBon's but their other (higher weight) loads worked fine. Pick up a box of several and try them. You will quickly find which feed flawlessly and hit at point of aim. Those are your rounds.

Out of my shorter-barreled .45's (G30, G36), I've found that 200+P seem to work best for me.

My choices in that weight are either Gold Dot or Hornady TAP/FPD, and I prefer Gold Dot--they seem to have a lot less muzzle flash.
