223 remington defense load for remington 716 police
Hi it's me again with a new question. I have to chance to get an used remington 7615 police pump action rifle, and I think I will get it. I will use primerly for target/fun shooting and in case of emgerncy for sd. And that's the reason why I have openend this thread. Which 223 remington load would be the most effective from an 16.inch barrel? I would be pleased hearing some tipps
Greetings from austria. |

The Hornady TAP loads seem to perform very well, and with the lighter bullet loads, the danger of over penetration is about on par with a handgun round.

That's a good gun I had one but traded it. I kick myself everyday for it!

According to the internet the 7615 has an 1/9 twist rate.

With a 1/9 twist, you'll probably get best results out of bullets weights of 55 to 70 grains.
I like either 55gr HP's/NBT's, or 64 grain SP's in my 1:9 rifles...

Thx for your answer cuda. It would be no problem to get some 55 gran jhps. I would also be possible to get some 64 grains loads like the 64 grain federal power shok or the 64 grain wichester power point.

My 1::9 favors the 69 Grain bullets, as does my 1::7.
Both will handle the 62 Grain bullets OK, but niether does well with the 55 Grain load. I would get a box of the various bullet weights and see which one does the best for you. A friend has a 1::9 twist barrel and his likes the 55 Grain loads very well. Each gun is different, and needs to be treated as such, IMO. Biker
