223 remington defense load for remington 716 police

Hi it's me again with a new question. I have to chance to get an used remington 7615 police pump action rifle, and I think I will get it. I will use primerly for target/fun shooting and in case of emgerncy for sd. And that's the reason why I have openend this thread. Which 223 remington load would be the most effective from an 16.inch barrel? I would be pleased hearing some tipps

Greetings from austria.

The Hornady TAP loads seem to perform very well, and with the lighter bullet loads, the danger of over penetration is about on par with a handgun round.

That's a good gun I had one but traded it. I kick myself everyday for it!

According to the internet the 7615 has an 1/9 twist rate.

With a 1/9 twist, you'll probably get best results out of bullets weights of 55 to 70 grains.

I like either 55gr HP's/NBT's, or 64 grain SP's in my 1:9 rifles...

Thx for your answer cuda. It would be no problem to get some 55 gran jhps. I would also be possible to get some 64 grains loads like the 64 grain federal power shok or the 64 grain wichester power point.

My 1::9 favors the 69 Grain bullets, as does my 1::7.

Both will handle the 62 Grain bullets OK, but niether does well with the 55 Grain load.

I would get a box of the various bullet weights and see which one does the best for you. A friend has a 1::9 twist barrel and his likes the 55 Grain loads very well.

Each gun is different, and needs to be treated as such, IMO.
