IM not a true ammo snob, I just snob off at people with ammo.
I do know that cheap ammo (target not SD) uses dirty powder and probably more corrosive primers and steel cases. remember the unadvertised SD ammo is basic self defense ammo. Its going to be loaded to use in all guns, its going to be no where near the top of the load charts. the bullets arent going to be "molecule bonded" or some fancy casting process. They are going to be basic hollow points, probably will have jacket seperation issues in FBI tests and the weight of the bullet post impact will be lighter then the fancy bonded HP post impact. So basically the name brand SD ammo thats packaged generic will put a hole in a bad guy and it will hurt. THere is no multi million dollar testing budget for the name brand generic packaged ammo. They make the stuff and do lot testing for consistency of load and thats about it. in the end, if all you can find is name branded generic packaged ammo its better then an empty gun you swing like a club. |

I prefer to carry HSTs but I have extensively tested and carried WWB 230 gr. JHPs and they have been 100% reliable and consistent. They seem to be hotter than WWB ball I have used for the range.
I have ran them through my G21 and G30. You can carry them with confidence that they will do the job if needed.

There are no US-made primers that are corrosive. Not even the Russians are using corrosive primers. I am not sure there have ever been any corrosive Boxer primers - Berdan, yes. Quote:
There's an awful lot of marketing hype and quoting of various tests, but when the bullets hit the flesh, I'm betting that there is no significant difference between any of the top SD loads, including the older HydraShok rounds. None of them are "One-Shot-Stop" rounds, unless the one shot is between the eyes or to the central nervous system. Not even a heart shop is a guaranteed one-shot-stop. As someone else has said of modern SD rounds, after reliability and accuracy, all else is angels dancing on the head of a pin.
