Although my S&W 340PD J-Frame is rated for .357, I carry Hornady .38+P Critical Defense for the advantages that round brings to penetration through any clothing. If Hornady ever makes a short-barrel (less flash) .357 in Critical Defense, I'll switch to that.

I believe the 135 gr. Speer Gold Dots were engineered for the .38 spl. snub nosed guns, not .357. I guess I should have asked what .357 round do you carry in your .357 snubby.

I carry .357 130gr hydrashoks in my S&W 340 M&P and while the recoil is stiff its controllable. I'm going to give the .357 135gr gold dots a try this week as well and maybe some corbon DPX's if I can find them. I also have used federals new 235gr nycad round in .38 special as well when I've been out of .357 magnum ammo, thats another thing I love about this little gun is the ammo versitility.

Right now I am carrying 125 grain Gold Dots, but I am considering a switch to a heavier bullet, not sure which one yet.

I keep two .38 spcl +p glassers in my k frame model 66 followed by 125 gr. rem Gold saber and a speedloader of gold saber and another speedloader 130 gr. low recoil hydroshoks. The glassers are used for in house only and get replaced if I carry this gun.

Speer Gold Dot, 135 gr. for snubbys.
If we know that snubbys diminish the power of a given .357 round, why go even weaker by starting out with a .38?
