Speer 135 Gr Gold Dot cartridges for short barrels are available in both 38 Special and 357 Mag -- the 357 is about 130 fps faster than the 38 Special +P from a 2" barrel according to Speer's ballistic tables.

Aw shucks you're making me
Give the Federal Nyclad rounds a try if you can get them locally. For a .38 round they do have some good ballistics for a short barrel revolver. I was glad to hear Federal started producing these again.
I still miss the good old days and the Super-Vel ammo(oops I'm giving away my age)

I go back a lot further than Super-Vel. You don't have to concern yourself about your age until someone tells you that, "your looking good, instead of your good looking, or, you get complimented on your alligator shoes, and your barefoot". Anyway, I just wanted to say that I think that all of the new +P ammo mentioned would perform well, however, I have no problem or complaints about recoil using .357 magnum in either my 4 in. or 2 1/8 in. guns. I have changed my mind about my carry round in my snubby. I've decided on the Remington 125 gr. SJHP because the accuracy was excellent. Both the 158 gr. & 125 gr. were accurate and grouped well fired from the 4 in. barrel.

If I'm going to carry .357 and not .38+p I like the 125gr Gold Saber. A comfortable to shoot "less than full power" load. For the bigger .357s I love the full power 125s, but I don't like the recoil and blast in the snubs.

With a snubbie, especially one with a small frame I'm not sure I would enjoy 100 rounds of full house .357 ammo. With something larger like an L-frame, it's not as hard on the hand .
I took my S&W 686+ out to play yesterday and practiced some one handed shots with the last 6 rounds, and I feel pretty comfortable shooting 158 grain rounds with the heavy frame.

I'm not sure it would be as much fun with something lighter like a Model 60 or a light-weight J-frame.

I also use the Speer short barrel .38s.

Replacing the stock two piece grips with the Hogue Monogrips on my S&W Model 60 j-frame has made the gun comfortable to shoot. Even with the .357 full house rounds there was no sting. Not much difference shooting with one hand. I have a Bond Arms .45 acp. that's fun to shoot, the recoil of the S&W was less than that of the Bond Arms. I've had both Taurus and Colt .357 snub nose in the past (stock grips) that stung really bad, so I have to give the credit to the Hogue Monogrips for the absence of pain with the S&W.
