Gun Show Today...

Went to the Gun Show today just to look and dream a little bit. BUT, also needed some .380 ammo, so kept my eyes open and checked at every table that had ammo. My fault I didn't get there when the doors opened, I arrived about noon. As always, most prices were quite high on things that I looked at. I found a table with Aguila .380, box of 50, 95gr, JHP ....$36.00 a box. People were buying two or more boxes at a time. Since I was looking for FMJ, I passed. A bit later, asked another vendor if he had any .380 FMJ, he initially said NO, then said, I have a couple of bags I bought for my wife, but you may be able to talk me out of one. I asked how much KY Jelley I needed, and he laughed. He went over and pulled out a bag of 50, FMJ, from Georgia Arms. It was plainly priced on the bag at $16.50, and he said he would let me have the bag for $20. Said he would tell the wife he could only get her one bag when he took the other bag home. Well, I did buy the bag. I had already been by the Georgia Arms table, they had NO .380. The fella running the Georgia Arms booth said when the doors opened at 9:00 a.m., the other Vendors bought all of his .380 ammo. I guess everyone was either buying to hoard, or buying to make a killing off poor fellas like me that just had to have 50 or more practice rounds....At this point, I'll just go into a "wait and see" mode for any additional .380 ammo I buy. Just needed a lil bit for my new LCP to make sure it functioned correctly...

I went to 2 shows today and I saw prices higher than that for 380. People were lined up to buy it. It cracked me up to see I can buy almost 2 boxes of 38 super for 1 box of 380.

People are now selling Walmart ammo at shows. The stores in my area write 'walmart" on their boxes now and you wouldn't believe how much of it was for sale today.

For what it is worth, anyone in Ohio looking for .380, Buckeye Outdoors and Vances seems to keep it in stock, last time there, Buckeye had FMJ for 18 a box, and about 15 boxes.

Our local Walmart put a limit on the number you can buy when they have it in stock, which is rarely. I know a guy who goes in and buys up most of the ammo, and sells it on Gunbroker for 3 times what he paid for it.

Wait a minute, isn't that what capitalism is all about? It may not seem fair, but at the same time, the bandits who bought it all up could get caught in a deluge of new .380 and lose their shirts on their stockpile.
You've never bought something and made a profit on reselling it?
It's just not as much fun when someone else is making the money.

I agree, it's called the law of supply and demand. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy at what theybelieve to be inflated prices.

Would we rather have the government regulate by price fixing ammo?

I don't think so.

Keep on wishing. I got one box of a hundred here a while back when my closest WM had some for $32.97 and I don't even shoot .380 auto. I might buy more in the future if I see it just so I can say I've had lead turn into gold. Supply and demand, greed, and feelings of love and warmth to your fellow man. In all actuality, I'll probably end up trading it for something I need when the time comes. Right now what I mainly need is more money to buy more ammo.

I went to a gunshow last week and also was disgusted to see sky-high prices for cheap Russian and E. European ammo.

I went looking for some .32 for my incoming Seecamp, and found virtually none, and I refused to pay the highway robbery prices of the few boxes of Prvi Partizan that were there (not like they would work in the Seecamp anyhow, too long OAL).

My problem with it .... At a gun show or in some gun shops I always felt like I was with my "friends". We all share a common interest and hobby or employment. Even though I don't know most of these people, it still bothers me a bit to see them trying to take advantage of their "brothers"

Wanna know what really gets me? People on gun broker selling Wal Mart value packs of ammo for 2x the price of wal mart. NO WONDER IT'S ALWAYS GONE!

I've heard stories of guys loading their pickup from the back of the store. I don't know the deals they made or where the money goes either. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the ammo you see posted at Gun broker. It's the same Winchester 100 round value packs of 9mm and .45acp except expensive compared to what you'd get if the store had any.

To me, if you're a shooter and are shooting that much then fine. If you're saving up what you can buy so that when you shoot you don't have to worry about ammo, fine. If you're just buying it to gouge the shooters who actually shoot and actually need that ammo to go to the range, that's not fair. I've heard stories about some ranges being unable to aquire ammo for their paying customers to have a box for target practice.

People only looking to profit by using underhanded tactics to aquire ammo for resale are hurting our hobby, & our sport. Making it exceedingly difficult to introduce new shooters since ammo is hard to come by and prohibitively expensive. Isn't this what people were all worried about to begin with? Ammo prices being ridiculous because of taxation? Now look at us, we have ruined the very thing we feared the government was going to do. I have no doubt they're laughing at us in DC right now. They didn't lift a finger and we almost destroyed our own hobby. You can't introduce someone to shooting and then have them pick out a gun because they can't find or can't afford ammo to shoot. I don't know many people who could justify the cost of competition shooting and all the ammo necessary for practice when you are gouged at every turn.

It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.
