Ranger and gold dot vs. water and denim (pics)
Loads were shot out of a Glock 17 into both bare water jugs and 4 layer denim covered jugs at 10ft.
Here are the numbers.... Winchester Ranger SXT 127gr+P+ Bare: Recovered in 3rd jug, dent in back of 3rd jug. Recovered diameter = .73" Denim: Recovered in 3rd jug, dent in back of 3rd jug. Recovered diameter = .67" Speer Gold Dot 115gr+P+ Bare: Recovered in 3rd jud,no dent in back of 3rd jug. Recovered diameter = .79" Denim: Recovered in 3rd jug, dent in back of 3rd jug. Recovered diameter = .58" Both rounds that were shot into bare jugs had diameters of approximately 1.1" when the petals were manually expanded. This expansion is happening in the first jug. Here are the pics...... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Good job. Those are the two rounds I'm interested in the most. Especially the Rangers.

Great!
I found Rangers and also Silver Tips somewhat ''ragged'' in their expansion tho, have to say the ''petals' looked real nasty! Still for consistency I stay now with GD's.

Looks to me that either one of them will kill you dead.
Not enough practical difference to worry about. We sure have come a long ways in bullet technology in the last 25 years or so.... ![]() |

I'm seriously considering Gold Dots. I have to see if they'll feed in my little Colt, though.
I sure agree on the advances in bullet technology. |

I tend to give Rangers the edge because of the large (max) expansion and of course the sharp 'talons'.
in the case of these two loads, they both had equal max. expansion but i do not find that to be the case with most other Gold Dots. |
