Ammo sugestions please.
I carry a Walther 9mm PPS and have a SA 9mm sc in the night stand. I would like to get some advice on the type of self defense ammo I could use in each gun. I know there are limits on what any gun can handle but I would like to get the most powerful without going over. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'd go with Cor-Bon; they make some good quality hot ammo that will perform......I have carried it in my weapons for 25 years and it has never failed me.

1 - The most reliable in YOUR gun(s) 2 - The most accurate in YOUR gun(s) After you determine the first two by shooting a couple of hundred rounds through each gun, THEN you can worry about "powerful". Virtually any of the top name SD ammo will perform very nicely on the intended soft targets. Reliability and accuracy are your first consideration.

Yeah, spend the dough and shoot some of what you're thinking about to make sure that they cycle through your weapons. Most of the big name SD ammo on the market will do a fine job. I load Hornady Critical Defense 115gr FTX ammo in my 9mm and I love it.

A lot of this is going to come down to availability....even if your funds are unlimited. You can't buy what you can't find. Then, it's going to come down to what works well in your firearms AND what works well for you and saves wear and tear on your firearms at the same time. You don't necessarily need to keep up with the current 'hot' trends on ammo for the 9mm...........some of the best has been around for quite some time. Tried and true and long enough to carry along some statistics with it. Personally, I have several different ammo brands and varieties for my PD applications. PD ammo these days is so expensive that I can see why the question was asked. But for me to outright suggest one single brand, bullet type, and grain weight for your PD usage and your pistols would simply be my own opinion, and quite possibly lead you on a wild goose chase to find. I've been set on PD ammo for all of my pistols/calibers for quite some time. So much so that I don't even bother to keep up with current trends or go for what everyone else is buying. I buy new PD ammo when I see something interesting, or a good buy....actually the days of good buys are gone, so we'll cater to the occasional 'decent' buy. The hottest trends in PD ammo still seem to elicit the thoughts of 'one shot stops' irregardless of caliber. Giving a throw of the dice, we might understand that this idea may still be elusive. You will need to do some testing, and check out the link varob posted. I have so many different PD ammunitions, I won't even mention their names, calibers, or weights. I still believe in shot placement, and if there were no such thing as hollow points, then we'd all be carrying FMJ 'ball' ammo and more than likely still debating on the best loads. Good luck to you.

What you can find is better than the latest bullet design that is unavailable. The link to the Best Choices for Self Defense ammo is a great guide though. Anything on the list will do the job for you I'm sure.

Run a couple of hundred rounds of differnt ammo thru each and check for reliability. If that is not feasable consider a revolver.

All modern defensive ammo is good. Can your guns handle +P loads? I've tried Cor-Bon, Silvertips, Golden Sabers, Hydra-Shok. They all work fine. You have to experiment to see what your gun likes and what you're good with.
