Kimber Ammo

Attention Kimber Ultra Carry II owners... I just got one of these and I love it!

What self defense ammo (hollow points) work best in your gun. I have Federal HST 230gr and am looking for at least two other rounds I can trust for variety. I prefer the 230gr... It's just my personal preference to carry the heavier bullets.

Anyone have issues going from +P to non +P?

Thanks guys!

First off, you need to break that gun in according to the manual. Run atleast 4-500 rounds of 230g ball ammo through it. Keep it well lubricated during break in. After 100% reliability, then you can start chosing a SD ammo. The gun is scary accurate so you would be best served by a quality manufactured SD ammo. I use DPX 185g +P copper JHP's. I have also fired 230g Winchester JHP's with no discernable difference. You will need to find the round that shoots the best with the best reliability for your particular gun. Congrats on owning one of the finest 1911's on the market. Mine shoots like a dream.

The gun is already broken in per manual and I have a few hundred rounds of Federal HST for testing. Just wanted to add a couple of other quality rounds to test and have to carry. Has everyone noticed like retsupt99 that they'll handle any quality ammo?

Also, retsupt99, is the Kimber what you carry SOB while riding your motorcycle?

My SIS Pro has developed quite a taste for the 230 Gold Dots as well. VERY accurate! Believe it or not the PMC Star Fire 230 is quite close to the Gold Dot.

Look at the ammo for .45 acp. Best Choices for Self Defense Ammo
This should give you something to consider.

Thanks... Good link. I was just trying to find out if the small Kimber had any preferences for certain kinds of ammo.

Haven't had an issue with any factory hollows in my Pro Carry HD II. I normally use Ranger T 230gr +P or Speer Gold dots.

I have fed mine, all kinds of hollows points. THough every hollow point I chambered felt like a gritty chambering. I then bought several boxes of HST....my UCCTII didn't not like them....@ all. Would jam on feed ramp every round.

So I polished the feed ramp...WOW silky smooth chambering on every round I've put through it since.....even the HST now cycle very smooth.

As of now I'm loaded with HST.
