Book Review: Michael Moore Is A.............
Michael Moore Is A Big Fat Stupid White Man by David T. Hardy and Jason Clarke. Regan Books. 2004. HB. 246 pages. $22.95. Available from Amazon.com.
This book is a counter-point and rebuttal to Michael Moore's books and documentary films. These include Stupid White Men, Downsize This! and Dude, Where's My Country? (books) and Roger & Me, Bowling For Columbine, Canadian Bacon and Fahrenheit 9/11 (films). I'll limit my review to just those chapters devoted to Bowling For Columbine, beginning with the film's deliberate character assassination of then NRA President Charlton Heston. Moore pictures Heston giving the now famous "from my cold dead hands" speech at the NRA convention in Denver right after the Columbine shootings. In fact, Heston gave this speech one year later, in Charlotte, NC. Moore ignores, again deliberately, the fact that the NRA cancelled all activities, except for the annual business meeting required by its bylaws, at the Denver convention, out of respect for the victims at Columbine. Moore next accuses Heston of holding a "pro-gun rally" in Flint, MI, right after a fatal school shooting in Mt. Morris, MI. The truth is that the rally was a political "get out the vote" rally, held eight months after the school shooting. Other Bowling lies and deceptions exposed by the authors include Moore's attempt to portray Heston as a rascist, equating the NRA with the Ku Klux Klan, his vastly inflated U.S. gun homicide statistics, and a doctored 1988 Bush/Quayle campaign ad. There's much more, from the Taliban to 9/11 to a hunter shot by his own dog. And to think this garbage was given an Academy Award. Some reviewers have called this book "muck-raking", "slanderous" (as if MM has never been guilty of this) and worse. I disagree. I believe the book accurately unmasks Michael Moore for the fraud that he is. The authors include 33 pages of source notes to back up their claims. Their research is thorough and complete and leaves no doubt in my mind that this book is truthful. Very highly recommended. 5 ![]()

Sounds like a good read - and I'll bet well endowed with research info. More than Moore ever did for his ''guesswork'', dupe movies etc. It's about time the balance was redressed. Thx for the mention.
