Hi All, I was wondering if you could suggest a book for my cousin. He has carried for years (and for the most part knows what he is doing) so I don't want anything too basic but would like a book regarding guns and/or specifically carrying firearms. Figured that I would ask here for suggestions. Was considering Armed Response, but thought it might be a bit too "simple" for him since he's a veteran CCWer?? More Guns Less Crime? The Gravest Extreme? Any and all suggestions are welcome! Thanks

More guns, less crime is interesting...but gets quite statistical/analytical/academic after the beginning.
If you want to just read quick statistics than I would suggest you download and print out the (Link)gunfacts book. It is very interesting and you can put it down and pick it right back up anytime. I just read the book "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin DeBecker. It isn't about guns or CCW, per se, but it is very interesting about your mindset and internal self defense and protection mechanisms. It has many very interesting stories illustrating how situations can escalate quickly, and how to prevent them. I highly recommend it. I've read the books by Wayne LaPierre (president of the NRA), they are good also...quite similar to one another, but still good. They are: Guns, crime, and freedom (1995) Shooting straight : telling the truth about guns in America (2002) Guns, freedom and terrorism (2003) Personally I'm trying to get my hands on the following: Rage of the Random Actor: Disarming Catastrophic Acts And Restoring Lives - Dan Korem Armed and Female: Twelve Million American Women Own Guns, Should You? Dial 911 and die (might be interesting). In the Gravest Extreme, by Massad Ayoob

Anything by Ayoob.
In the Gravest Extreme is maybe the best book on the subject ever written.

My personal favorite is The Concealed Handgun Manual and it was updated in 2007. Another good choice is Armed Response: A Comprehensive Guide to Using Firearms for Self-Defense.

What about state laws, etc. CCW carriers need to know a lot about law in order to make the right decisions.

Ayoob's In the Gravest Extreme is a very good book on lethal force decision making. It should be read by anybody carrying a gun, IMO. It will not give you pointers on concealed-carry technique or on the specifics of local law, so it won't cover everything. A training course would help with the local issues and basic tactics/techniques. And, of course, all the great information you get right on this very forum.

In the Gravest Extreme and The Concealed Handgun Manual by Chris Bird.
Both excellent books.
