Pericles' Funeral Oration
I just had to read this for a Literature class. A poignant reminder that the Athenians were ahead of their times, and perhaps, how much our own society has allowed the bedrock of democracy to erode.
I highly recommend that everyone read it, and it's available online for free... Ancient History Sourcebook: Thucydides (c.460/455-c.399 BCE): Pericles' Funeral Oration from the Peloponnesian War (Book 2.34-46) Quote:
