Should be required for every CCW Holder, In the Gravest Extreme
In the Gravest Extreme, Mas Ayoobs primer on carrying and defending the innocent. I'm sending a copy for Christmas to 10 of my friends who carry. I think it is as important to read for the gun owner who carries for defense as the hunter safety course is to a youngster.

I read that book so many times even before I carried full time! I think it should be part of the basics. An excellent read even 20 years ago....the principles never get old!

My required reading book is: "Principles of Personal Defense" by Jeff Cooper, the man who among other things established the color code.
I loan the book to each of my students and require that they read it before signing them off; yep, it is not easy to get it back. His emphasis on "Combat mindset" is outstanding. For me, Ayoobs teach too much when not to shoot; such a conditioning may cost you a second or two in reaction time which may translate into an eternity. I have been planning to post my detailed thoughts on this subject; hopefully, as things around here slow down a bit, I'll get to it soon.

Mass actually sends you one if you sing up for LFI-1. It is the textbook for the course.

Yes, the Second book is his Stressfire. I'm probably going to require both of my students. Most of them are retired military and will gobble up the information. I anticipate some interesting discussions.

Books on the shelf
I have been reading and rereading the stress fire series and in gravest extreme for many years. They are part of my knowledge base. I also have a well worn copy of Principles of Personal Defense. I find nothing in them mutually exclusive. I also have books on the shelf by Louie Awerbuck and Clint Smith as well as Rensberg, Taylor and others. The point is that the person that is exclusive to one author might just be so exclusive as to miss a piece of the puzzle. Read a bunch, get smart about the subject, use other to contrast what you think you know, be smart, keep in touch with those key building blocks, stay smart always question reality, stretch to find a better way and STAY ALIVE.
By the way, The First Rule of a gunfight is; Have a gun, within reason most any gun will do, after that everything else will work itself out. Good Luck & Be Safe
