I have read this story twice now. The first time back in 2003 or 4. Best book I have ever read. I usualy will not read a book on computer, I need to read a book on paper. This book broke that ipediment for me.

I'm going to get started on it soon - I'm on a serious Apocalypse kick right now... In the last few weeks I've read World War Z, The Handmaid's Tale, The World Without Us, Akira, and (re-read) The Road. I am a hundred pages into Good Omens - as soon as I'm done with THAT, I'll hit it up.

As an aside, The Road (and, indeed, Cormac McCarthy in general) isn't everyone's cup of tea (by a long shot), but it is his most "accessible" work, and there is no denying the man's genius as a writer.... I urge everyone to give it a chance, at least.

I'll have to give this one a shot, although I don't like reading books on my computer. The Road is great, I tend to like Cormac McCarthy though, it is a bit depressing.

These are at least shorter. They're the Coffin Rock stories.

I can never get it to open, if someone has it downloaded and wouldn't mind attaching it to an email I would greatly appreciate it. Shoot me a PM or my email address jlrich7@uky.edu

Lights Out was definitely a good read!! Thanks for making the link available. I had read the first Coffin Rock article, but the sequel was new to me. Thanks for that one as well!

I believe there was a movie along the same line, power outage due to a heatwave. Shows what people are prepared to do in SHTF situation. Amazing thing is it only took a few days to escalate.
