Just finished it.
It was loooong! But worth it. Makes you think.
Very much like the 'Patriots' book by James Wesley Rawles.
If you haven't read that one, I highly suggest it. (It was just republished I believe)
It also started out as an online book in the late 90's, under the title 'Triple Ought'.
Both books are almost training manuals, while at the same time entertaining.

Just finished it.
I think the writers style improved as the book progressed. What was really neat for me was the setting. Just about all of it takes place in areas I have driven through or near since I immigrated from Maryland a couple of years ago.

Agreed 100%! These are superb short stories. Should be read by every gun owner.

FYI, the "Coffin Rock" stories were also reprinted in the April & May 2009 issues of Dillon's The Blue Press magazine.

Just finished Lights Out.

I have to say it was an excellent read.
Not only did I enjoy the writing and the plot, it gave me lots to think about SHOULD the S actually HTF.

Thanks for the recommendation.
Now, on to some of the others on OPFOR's list.

OK I just finsihed this book. I loved except for the ending. SPOLIER alert DO NOT READ THE BELOW!!!!

OK my ending was a bit jumbled on the download so I may have missed it. But
what happened to Jon? How did mark die? Did the lights come back on? I DEMAND resolution! In my copy the epilogue just started and I was so confused. Can someone explain the ending?

"The Road." I think it will be out as a movie before too long.
Written by the same author as "No Country for Old Men."
The Road made No Country seem like a comedy.

I was depressed for weeks.
Bottom line: some kind of cosmic winter, caused either by nukes or comet. World gone to hell. Roving bands of criminals and cannibals.
Father and son try to make it to the ocean.

Ya -- the road was excellent. About a year ago, I finished it on the airplane on my way home from visiting my dad. I'm man enough to say it was tough not bawling on the the plane.

After finishing Lights Out, I found current articles on the threat of EMP and our nation's unwillingness to do ANYTHING about it.

The Risk of Electromagnetic Pulse Devastation
The risk of electromagnetic pulse devastation is greater than ever. Why does Washington dismiss it?

Thanks to the OP. I'm on page 285. It is a great read, but I can't hold it in.

Cons: So far, it has the ring of wishful pondering. It is a story that appeals to my (and I think others) feeling that they wish SHTF a little (naturally not as bad as an EMP) so things that are frivolous can be strained out of the conversation of what if prepared vs paranoid.

Sort of like Y2K. Everyone makes a deal about how much hype Y2K was, but I have a few family members who worked their tail off (mostly at the local level). At the national level, my brother did some critical work as a programmer to make sure nothing happened. It was real, but those who worked hard at it, sometimes are critisied as making it bigger then it was. The same people who critisied would have been some of the first to demand people be made accountable if bad things would have happened.

You can also tell it is written by people who like firearms. Sometimes they go a little to far on descriptions of the firearms. It has a kid in the candy store read to it. Like the 1911 obsession or the LaVernia sub's requirement that every have a Glock 34 (really G17 would be a more likely requirement). It is a little like listening to fans of Star Wars or Star Trek babble on about a detail only a fan could care about.

Other then that, there are a few double negative problems, and a few other issues, that a good / professional editor could help on. It is well written, and honestly, I've read paperbacks that have been best sellers that had similiar mistakes. However, the copy I'm reading is a tad bit more rough then it would be if it was placed in print.

Pros: JUST A GREAT READ. I think this would make a great screen play for a season long (13 or so episodes) TV show with maybe a two part (for hour) mini-series movie to kick it off and another 2 hour series ender.

I would think pro-gun celebrities (actors) could easilly fit many parts of the cast.

Well, back to reading. Thanks again to the OP.
