SHTF fictional story.
This was posted on my local forum and while it's a few years old it was new to me so it may be new to you. I think most of you will enjoy this, fair warning it's long so don't hit the print button.
This fictional story follows a Texas subdivision through the darker days after an EMP knocks out power throughout north america. http://www.canopy.net/adventure1/lightsout.pdf

Made me think of the book my wife just forced me to read.
"The Road." I think it will be out as a movie before too long. Written by the same author as "No Country for Old Men." The Road made No Country seem like a comedy. I was depressed for weeks. Bottom line: some kind of cosmic winter, caused either by nukes or comet. World gone to hell. Roving bands of criminals and cannibals. Father and son try to make it to the ocean. Renew your prescription of anti-depressants before reading.

I had someone recommend "The Road" to me yesterday. I will have to check it out.
I know what you mean retsupt, when I saw 611 pages I didn't think I would read it but I got hooked and couldn't stop.

I have read "Lights out" , in fact I have a copy on my hard drive. It is a far superior story to "The Road".
It's a good read with a pretty positive ending.

Great recommendation! Especially since The Road won a Pulitzer Prize. Now, I have to say, The Road was not my cup of tea.

Thanks for post. However; I do not appreciate losing my weekend. (J/K).
It's a good read so far but I am only 1/2 way done with it. Trying not to sit in front of the computer the whole weekend when the weather is sunny, mid 70's and no rain. |

Well I am taking a break at page 95.
Kind of eerie. I had actually been pondering a similar scenario recently and discussing various aspects of it with my wife.

It's an eye opener. Considering I work 40 miles from home I could only imagine how hard it would be to get to my family in that scenario.
