My personal choice would be a 40 or 45..but with a 9mm you can almost be assured of being able to scrounge ammo from a dead bad guy. Now what would probably happen if the fight resorted to using a handgun, kill a bad guy pick up his AK and continue the fight.

Glock 17 but it's hard to overlook the history of the 1911.

The best all time .... no doubt the 1911, 45 APC. Most proven and been around a long time. I know serveral people still in the Army who was in before the switch to Berreta and they all will tell you, they wish they had their old 45 instead of a 9MM. These are people who have served in combat.

Anything made by Mr. Gaston Glock is the winner in my book. I have been carrying a Glock of some sort since the mid 1990's. I have carried various other types of weapons but I always resort back to the Glock because they will digest any type of ammo and have never failed me. I guess that is why their slogan is "Glock Perfection"

While I love the power and SA feel of a 1911... for all out reliability in a "combat" situation, I trust my glock 17.... 17+1, with two spare 17 rounders all loaded with 147gr. JHP!!! I feel pretty comfortable.
I love my 1911, but I trust my Glock. I know that this my sound hypocritical to some...Sorry, I'm only human.

Combat pistol=military pistol=M9. Reliable, rugged, accurate, powerful, easy to shoot well.
mark I am no longer in the military, and carry a variety of pistols, including a 1911, and several S&W revolvers and occasionally a SAA. Plus a .25 in my poket. |

I don't think any pistol should be considered a "combat handgun" - they're all just handguns. There are some that are very reliable, and some chambered in different cartridges. Glocks are good, Sigs are good, a good 1911 is good. Those are the ones that I'd pick first if I had to take something with me to combat as a secondary weapon. As it stands, I've had to take an M9 - which was always worked for me during training, and I never had to use it. Just my $0.02
