The sample does reflect my own experience and the experience of a couple of friends who do use 1911s. I suspect that if the sample were 1000 the same arguments would be used in defense of the 1911. I do not think any other gun handles and shoots as well as a 1911, but OTB reliability is not as good as other modern handguns. I hear of very few problems with Sigs, H&K, and Glocks which are used extensively here by law enforcement. I would expect to have problems with any brand, excluding custom, of 1911 OTB. It might be that I would get lucky, but not so far. Regards, Jerry |

I bought a brand new Kimber Pro CDPII several months ago and had the same bad experience described by Limatunes. If it had not cost over a 1000 bucks I would have tossed it in the Ohio River, I was so mad. From the VERY first round it had problems. Yes, I stripped it, lubed it (with Shooters Choice, the Kimber recommended lub), etc etc. Called tech support, etc. Now, about 700 rounds later. Still unreliable. Better than it was when brand new, but still has failure to feed. When I drop the slide to feed a fresh round with a new mag., the slide does not close all the way and needs to be pushed "home" by my thumb. Man.
The gun is all beauty and no brawn. KK |

I have had my Ultra Carry for several years now and it is my preferred carry weapon. Haven't had a single problem with it.

I have a Kimber Custom TLE, and have had no problems with it. Great gun that is accurate and dependable. My previous Kimber, an Eclipse, had an extractor problem but it was fixed by replacing the extractor. I believe that the problem may have been caused by not installing it properly after cleaning so I will accept responsibility for that one. Great guns in my opinion....

I have never shot a Kimber and only want to share with you what I saw.
I was at a gun store today and each of the Kimber's had was corroded on the barrel end (the part that is exposed when you slide back). The other guns they had were not that rusted. Either way I know I am not going to buy a gun there, no way I would let my guns get rusted before sale (or after). I am not trying to cast dispersions on Kimber. I am only trying to pass along what I saw is all. Chris |

I have a Kimber Ultra CDPII that is my daily carry gun. During the break in period I probably had 6-8 FTF problems - the gun was very tight. After 500-600 rounds, I have had zero problems since. I have around 1000 - 1300 rounds through the gun and am confident in it's ability.
As has been stated, any mechanical device is prone to issues. I have a new S&W Pro Series 1911 that has been back to the factory twice now for various issues. Finally it shoots as it should.

Bought a Kimber TLE II last year and it was worthless even well after break in. Couldn't shoot anything without some kind of failure and the craftsmanship wasn't impressive for the price. Traded it in for a Wilson Combat and couldn't be happier.
