If those gun slingers considered unintentional fischarges a "none issue" why would they carry the hammer down on an empty chamber on those colt SAA types?
Let's neither overestimate the risks nor underestimate the risks. At the time of the recall there were 3 reported ADs do to dropping on a hard surface. Without going into how problematic it is to establish the veracity of the reporting the cause of an AD, some other perspectives should be considered. At the time more than 60,000 units were in distribution and given the scarcity of these guns, most would have already been in customer's hands. Drop tests are part of the qualification testing before production of any handgun and some states require it. The issue is not lack of a drop test, but from how high and with what force and at what angle.

Ruger established a voluntary recall. I am told by respected industry insiders that they know of far more potentially dangerous flaws that did not result in a recall by the manufacturers. They may, or may not quietly change the design. Ruger is to be applauded for being proactive and offering incentives to owners to participate.

What is a fischarge?

Well, my LCP is heading back today for it's second trip to Ruger. After looking at the recall site and reading posts here about the "diamond" stamp, I decided to contact Ruger as my recall returned LCP did not come back with a diamond:

After talking with a customer service rep, she said that their records did indeed indicate that it had been repaired but since this was a safety issue they wanted me to return it a second time (on their dime) to confirm that the work had actually been completed. I feel confident that it was just a slip-up as far as stamping the diamond but I've got to commend Ruger for their commitment to making sure the gun is safe. With two round trips out of their pocket, it may have been cheaper for them to just give me a new gun to begin with.

It is imprudent to trivialize gun safety warnings, especially on a safety issue that the manufacturer has determined is worth the loss of over a million dollars to fix.

I've heard that a range officer of a police department whose officers got the LCP did drop tests on 3 separate LCP's and each one fired.

No matter how safe someone thinks they are handling guns, accidents can and do happen.

Certain things should not be subject to compromise and gun safety is one of them. I am very glad that Ruger has taken this approach.

It is disturbing to see so many "experts" trivialize Ruger's warning and recall.

I sent mine back and got a whole bunch of other upgrades done as well including metal magazine latch, injector fix, trigger fix and barrel work.

It hasn't missed a shot or dropped a magazine since with over about 150 rounds of Remington Golden Saber.

I have no reason to doubt your veracity. However, it amazes me that if there is information about PD tests yielding 100% failure rate and there are no other reports I can find.

Just got my LCP Back from Ruger

I got my LCP back from Ruger only after it was gone for six days. They also gave me a new Mag and nice LCP cap. Went to the range with my little girl (shes 11) this morning and put 24 rds down range with no issues. I would of put more rds on target but we all know 380 ammo is hard to get these days. I m very pleased with Rugers service!

My LCP made it home today from it's second trip. Pretty happy with the whole experience. Came back with the following on the packing slip:
Barrel -- Repaired
Extractor -- Replaced
Hold Open -- Replaced
Mag Latch (s) -- Replaced
Mag Latch Spring -- Replaced
Recoil Spring (Inner) -- Replaced
Recoil Spring (Outer) -- Replaced
Slide -- Replaced
Plus a much improved trigger. Has a fair amount of free travel up front much like a DA/SA trigger when fired in SA mode but then relatively short travel to firing with a very consistent 6 1/2# pull. This trip was handled through customer service rather than the recall team. Whatever else you want to say about Ruger, I can't imagine their customer service being much better. Mistakes were made but quite frankly, I think they've handled it like a class act.

Has anyone received their mag with the pinky extension base plate, since they ran out a while ago?

I got mine back from recall in January and received an IOU on the base plate.

Just wonderin'.

Well, ask and ye shall receive :) Today an envelope was in my mail box containing 2 base plates with the pinky extension. I still can't fit my pinky up under there, but the finger above it fits better.

I not sure I understand your question, but I think the current lack of availability has more to do with the continued popularity of the LCP than the recall. Most people I know who sent their LCP in on the recall had them back in less than 10 days. My local dealer had 9 of them in stock at the time and they were all back in less than two weeks. Given that this recall is now 9 months old and how quickly Ruger has repaired and returned the guns, I'd guess almost all of the repairs have been completed.

If you're looking for one, Bud's Gun Shop currently shows them in stock at $379.00 delivered. There are a bunch of them for sale on Guns America ranging in price from $299.00 to $499.00.
