Hey everyone,
I'm new here and hope I don't offend anyone. My wife and I just got our CCW in AZ this past week-end. Although we've been long time handgun shooters. We have a new LCP, have shot 200 rounds with no functional problem. Neither of us can remember when we last "dropped" a handgun; so we're not too worried about the recall. A personal thought: Does any serious shooter really ever rely on a safety? My/our opinion is that the only really reliable safety is the connection between the brain and the trigger finger. Mechanical safeties, regardless of the type, are only a very poor back up for those who are forgetful, drunk or careless; and they shouldn't be handling a gun at all. |

First, welcome to the forum! And it's never offensive to ask questions; that's what it's all about. I always believed that the only stupid question is the one that you don't ask! On to the LCP. It's a great little compact pistol. Be aware that if you're serial number starts with 370-xxxxx there is a recall on the unit. I agree with your premise that the best safety is your personal awareness and familiarity with the firearm. As you know, the LCP does not have a safety per se, but it does have that long trigger pull for each shot. That, hopefully, will give you time to assess whether you really want to pull that trigger or not. Most of my pistols do not have a safety- they are either double action, or they have a de-cocking ability. Just my Ruger Mark II has a safety because it's single action only, and since it's a competition only gun (for me), I never use the safety. That said, I think you should put a lot of ammo throught the LCP, and become very familiar with it. Stay safe, and keep asking the questions. There are many great forum members here, most with incredible expertise. BTW, you should do the recall if you're affected, as Ruger will give you a free magazine for your trouble. And since you're in Arizona, it shouldn't be too much of a turnaround time. Are you near Prescott?

It's Back!
Miss Elsie Pea was just returned to me this afternoon. Very fast turnaround. Here's how it went:
10/31: Day 1, Recall Announced / Requested Shipping Box 12/03: Day 33, Shipping Box Arrives, UPS Picks Up 12/04: Day 34, LCP Arrives in Prescott, AZ 12/09: Day 39, It's Back! Bonus: They included a free mag with extender, and also a free cap! I will probably wear this every time I go shopping to let people know I'm carrying a concealed Ruger. ![]() PS: They also upgraded the slide latch button to make it easier to lock open. I like that!

So anyone else get theirs back yet? Mine came last night (see last post). It's been raining all day so I don't know if I can make it to the range to try it out, but I'll let you all know how it goes.

I recieved my return box last Tuesday, sent it off the next day on Wednesday, and I got it back Today! I am pumped. Ruger has exceeded my expectations and I will definitely be a repeat customer. The additional magazine is nice also. Thanks Ruger!

I'm not a huge Ruger fan as I've always found their handguns to be a bit "clunky" for my tastes, but I've always felt that they build an extremely reliable firearm. In CAS circles, if you want a revolver you can beat to death, you shoot a Ruger as they will take just about any punishment you can dish out. I seriously don't believe that ANY company could have handled this recall more efficiently than Ruger has. Granted, it would be best if a recall were never needed but Ruger deserves kudos for how they have handled the recall.
Timeline: February 2, 2008 -- Ruger annnounces new LCP pistol March 10th, 2008 -- I pick up my LCP from my dealer and post here October 29th, 2008 -- Ruger announces recall -- I start this thread, fill out online form at Ruger's web site and receive confirmation email from Ruger November 25th or 26th, 2008 -- I received my mailer box with instructions to call Ruger to arrange pick-up December 1st, 2008 -- I call Ruger and leave message December 2nd, 2008 -- Receive call back from Ruger December 3rd, 2008 -- UPS picks up LCP December 10th, 2008 -- UPS returns repaired LCP I received my LCP back today with a LCP hat, an extra magazine, problem that forced recall corrected, plus they made the frame modification to prevent empties from being dented. While I may not purchase any other Ruger handgun as I still find most of their line "clunky", I can find no fault with the company in how they have handled this situation. It took much longer for Ford to get the parts to repair the fire-starting windshield motor on my truck. Hoss

Right now, customer service is quoting a seven (7) BUSINESS days turn-around from the date that an LCP is received by them. It appears they're keeping well within that parameter!

I sent mine to Prescott on Friday and it was back in my hands on Tuesday. I must say, Ruger was pretty darn fast on the turn-around. They even sent me a free LCP hat along with the pinky mag.
