Additional votes have been cast since I posted. Still the fact that 1 in 4 owners of the PM9 say that the gun has "given them trouble", that's a problem for Kahr in my opinion. A $600.00 or more gun should be trouble free. That said, I didn't consider the failures to feed (there were several) during the first 200 rounds "trouble" given Kahr's break-in period recommendation. Only when I had consistent jams of the first round in the magazine thereafter that I had to pry out, did I consider the weapon truly "troublesome". I spent 15 minutes this morning on the phone listening to a recording from Kahr's technical support center telling me they were busy helping other customers before sending an email spelling out my issues. Guess what? No reply to my email today. I'm delighted that a majority of PM9 owners are fully satisfied. I hope one day to be among those. But as of now, if I had my purchasing decision to do over, I would not buy a Kahr product. |

I only meant to point out that the poll has a flaw that makes the outcome questionable. Not to question your experience. I'm sorry your Kahr hasn't been reliable and inspired confidence.

Pocket Carry; PM9 but be prepared to deal with some pretty significant muzzle flip. You can try different loads to manage the flip and felt recoil.
Belt carry or for something you can really use at the range; MK9. Way softer for shooting, good looking, some say more reliable but I wouldn't get to concerned about the reports of polymer being less reliable than the MK9. Because of it's very compact size the MK9 may "feel" heavier than it is but it positively disappears when carried IWB. I've got the MK9 and love shooting and carrying it and I picked it over the PM9 because the PM9 was just a tad large for me to pocket carry comfortably. IF you can pocket carry it comfortably based on your size and they type of pants you wear, then I'd recommend the PM9 all the way although it's no where near as pretty as the MK9, especially with wood grips!

Still, I would wager that if the same poll with the same wording were posted with, say Springfield Armory or Glock of any model (just for example) substituted for Kahr PM9 you would not have 25 percent of the respondents saying they had trouble. I am confident that I have far less experience with handguns than you, but I have never had a single failure to feed or jam with any other semi-auto that I own, and I have put some crappy Wolf ammo through some of them without a hiccup. I'm not dissing Kahr, per se. Believe me I love the look, feel and size of the PM9 and want it to be my every day CC. It's frustrating. |

I posted this info in another thread, but here it goes again. I purchased a PM9 for my gf. After the 6th or 7th round through the gun, it FTE. After 40 rounds through the gun, it FTE about 1/2 of the rounds with a couple misfires. Finally, it would not fire at all, and a gunsmith on site couldn't even take the gun apart. Luckily, the place I got the gun was a stand up business, and replaced the gun with an identical, brand new one. After 150 rounds through the new one, we haven't had one single problem. The only thing I can say about the 1st gun vs. the second one, is that the first one felt very tight when cycling the slide, and had a bit more of a metal on metal or dragging feel to it.

I've carried the MK9 with an IWB and as an ankle carry....the weight isn't that much of an issue for me--but it takes practice to carry and draw. IMO, the MK9 isn't a 25 yd gun--it is an "up close and personal" piece. With enough range/capacity to extricate yourself from whatever situation you're in.
