All PP models can fire if dropped while the safety is disengaged. It's been that way forever.

I've had two Interarms ppk's discharge a round when the hammer was dropped using the decocker over the last 30 years. It's been fairly well established that that possibility exists on the PP series of pistols, though it's rare, it has happened enough to warrant not trusting the decocker.

I still carry a ppk with hammer down on a live round for a DA first shot without having to disengage the safety. I'll take my chances on dropping it and it firing.

PPK-PPK/S Recall

I think the issue could occur if you try to manually drop the hammer from the cocked position with the manual safety in the "fire" condition. The hammer block is not completely blocking the hammer from blocking the firing pin. The trigger does not come into play.

Sounds like the hammer block (safety) is more of a sear and instead of rolling the hammer down it drops it like a rock.

This makes some sense out of the recall notice, but, on inspection of my ppk/s, it turns out that the hammer rests a fraction of an inch away from the hammer block.

On my Bersa and P22 the hammer block pushes the hammer back a fraction of an inch, but the ppk/s hammer does not rest against the hammer block/firing pin assembly. When the hammer is down, I must push it forward to rest on the hammer block. When firing, the inertia of the hammer carries it forward to strike the pin. I thought this was a safety feature (sort of like an inertial firing pin). The hammer doesn't move when the safety is cycled, so there is no hammer movement to set off a round when disengaging the safety.

Anyone else's ppk/s like this?

I spoke with S&W (they made the recalled Walthers).

Their answer:

"With the hammer down and the safety on, there is a possibilty that the pistol will fire when you rotate the safety to the off position."

Nothing about dropping the pistol or dropping the hammer from the cocked position using the safety (decocker).
