Ok I just had to reply about this I just bought 2 of these 340PD's one for me and one for my wife as future carry guns. The size and lack of much weight as well as the ability for .357 or .38 sold me on them.

I was unable to fire them as they were new at the gunstore even the store owners had never shot one before.

So the day I picked it up the store owners donated a box of .357 and some .38 and we walked out into the range.

Four different people shot it-comments Fire breathing dragon, cannon, howitzer in you palm, monster gun.(me and 3 store emp.)

Drew blood on two of the four.

I shot 25 rounds thru it and certain parts of my hand were still sore 4 days later.

My wife has yet to use the .357 in it she says it is too loud.
her first .38 shot was a perfect between the eyes head shot.

It is an animal for sure but I will be more inclined to have it on me when I need it, and if i need it I'm sure recoil will not be noticed.

I'd love to try one of these out. But not with 357 ammo. I'm not recoil shy but I've already got a bunch of plates and screws in my wrist from a previous injury. That injury has reduced my grip strength some. I think the 38 ammo would be a blast. Plus it would be a great BUG!

Just chuckling at all the commentary. I LOVE the concept of this handgun. Being able to deliver that much firepower from something that small is absolutely amazing. That gun is no bigger than my old H&R breaktop .32SW from the early 1900s with a howitzer attachment on the front. Pocket gun in the smallest frame and grip I have shot in years.

The reality is that the .357 is a bit too hot for my liking, especially in someting that small and light. I did shoot some .38 from it and it was manageable.....but the .357 was a bit regrettable. My 9mm shooting afterwards was worthless because I kept anticipating the recoil from that damn .357. My buddy was laughing at me because for the first three shots....I kept cussing after the trigger pull. I would recommend only shooting it by itself OR do it after shooting quota with smaller cal handguns.....I could not make the transition back.

LeCalsey,
Try the Speer Gold Dot SB (short barrel) ammo. It is .357mag but designed for the short barrels of these type guns. That is what I carry in mine.

I was at the local shop one day and the guy tells me he sold one each to 2 LEOs. They were going to qualify with it using .38's. The rangemaster only let them shoot .357. He said they had somewheres of 200 rounds each and were dying when it was over. They didnt think it was that cool anymore to have a 13oz cannon.

S&w 340 pd...

I've got one & haven't been brave enough to shoot is with .357 ammo & probably never will. I keep it stoked with .38 +P.

I bought a Nemesis pocket holster for it & it worked great for 2-3 months, but now it's gotten slick & comes out with the gun. I suppose I've got to begin the search again.

I looked everywhere for a 340 pd and couldn't find one. I was finally able to find a 340 M&P I settled for and LOVE IT! I am still looking for a 340 PD though as it is a tad lighter and the front sight is a little more snag free. I don't know how much difference in felt recoil could be noticed from full house 357 loads out of this lighter 340 but when I think bout it WOW. Full house loads are managable but due make for a different training day at the range.
