I really think this says it all. The unsupported chamber does make it more prone to case failure.

So when a case failure happens....would you rather be holding a mostly plastic pistol, or a mostly metal one?

can you explain unsupported chamber. I have read this before, but don't 100% know what it is speaking of. Just a guess though, is it where the entire casing is not enclosed within the chamber, like in the picture?

One nice thing about Glocks is that when there is a case failure or even a double charged round, you can usually walk away with a stinging hand and maybe a small gas cut on your index finger. Many of the other companies get the same thing going, you're in the ER getting chunks of Brand "X" fished out of your hand and face.

Oh yeah, and the chamber support thingy is a complete crock.

Ok, how about, "If a case fails or there is a double charge in the case then the natural response for the released energy is to go through the path of least resistance which just so happens to be through the back of the chamber and into the rest of the internal structure of the firearm. This is due to only the case mouth expanding to seal to the walls of the chamber and will happen regardless of chamber support levels. As the rest of the firearm is not designed to contain explosive (used for simplicity but not really correct) energies, bad things result that Glocks will typically handle better due to superior materials than other brands of firearms"?

It's not a complete crock, I'm pretty sure almost any gunsmith would agree. Glock fanboys are a crazy bunch.

Like I have said, I don't know much of anything about this...so I'm really just trying to learn. But if the chamber fully enclosed the casing and it had some sort of failure for whatever reason, wouldn't the extra energy be forced towards and out the front of the barrel?
