Statistics

It would be interesting to see some good statistics on this GLOCK Kaboom issue, but its the kind if thing that's hard to measure. But if I just look at the facts, it goes kind of like this.

1) Seems that Glocks KB more often than other types - but it is still a very infrequent occurance.

2) Seems that the Glock 40 and 45 are more susceptible than the 9mm.

3) Glocks have less support on the rear of the casing - that's one of the reasons they feed so reliably.

4) The 9mm round has thicker metal in the rear casing - its tapered.

5) Ammo is not perfect.

It is easy to come to some conclusions with that info. I kind of like 9mm anyway, so if I get a Glock it will likely be a 19. But if I liked the .40 or .45, this would not bother me too much - just a little.

Had that happen on a SA 1911-A1,ammo was reloaded, it cracked the wood grips, trashed the magazine and blew crap into my face, worse part was I had my shooting glasses on my forehead as it was the last 45 round I found in my range bag and chambered it to shoot before I went home.Eye doctor dug 11 small pieces of brass out of my eye

It's a .40 caliber issue, primarily. As someone elsewhere has noted, "All handguns should be Glocks, all Glocks should be 9mm..." A bit hyperbolic, but at least 1/2 true.

The unsupported chamber is not a crock. What it is, is a factor. All handgun chambers have to leave a small portion of the case wall unsupported. If they didn't, they wouldn't be able to extract, and it wouldn't work with tolerances.

A double charge is gonna blow out a casing with any gun. With a weak/damaged casing or a slight overcharge, I think the glock will be more likely than others to let this happen, because there is less support for the casing. It's going to force the brass to support itself there.

Still, this is a very unprobable event, and is very likely worth the improvement in feeding reliability that glocks are known for.

It appears from the picture of the round it has nothing to do with the gun, but with faulty ammo. A ruptured casing an any make of gun can be trouble. Doesn't matter if it is a Glock, Ruger, SIG or CZ.
I had a case rupture in a Ruger GP-100, while there was no injury to me or major damage to the gun, it did cause minor cosmetic damage to the cylinder.

I had two Glock KABOOMS; both with Glock 23s. The first was with reloaded ammo--my bad, probably. They were my reloads and were moderately hot. The pistol was an early Glock. Glock replaced the pistol at some nominal cost (maybe half retail) because, at the time, there was no warning in their owner's manual about using reloads. The second kaboom was with Remington factory ammo in the green and white box. The second was worse than the first in that the firearm essentially came apart with the second while the first only blew out the magazine.

After the second kaboom I was done. No more Glocks for me. I shoot reloads all the time now in my SIG 229 with nary a problem. The "Glocksters" can rave about theirs all they want. Glocks may be fine for them, but no one will ever convince me.

Had a Kaboom with a 1911 years ago.
Vented gas out around the magazine.
No damage to anything but the case.
