For a house gun, you might consider the excellent Browning Hi-Power in 9mm. Ergonomics are wonderful, good for smaller hands. A decent gunsmith can tune the trigger action to be exceptionally smooth and as light as you want it. Cylinder & Slide does a good tune of HP's.

It's DA/SA, 9mm, made in the USA, and the grip is very small. The trigger, even in DA, is much easier to pull than my SP-101. The 3913 has a good reputation for being dependable and easy to carry.

It is 8+1, but to get higher capacity, it would soon require a double-stack and thus a much thicker grip. Although 8+1 may not seem like a lot compared to some, that is almost double the SP-101's capacity.

I have one, not for sale, but I'd be willing to let her hold and shoot it to see if she likes it. I'll be passing through KS Tuesday early evening if you all are interested in trying it out.

+1 for the 3913. It meets all your criteria. Now GOOD LUCK finding one!!!

Yep, straight down I-35, with time to detour if you provide directions.

For a house gun, with hand problems...wouldn't a long gun be easier on her? Maybe a semi-auto 20 g shotgun, or a carbine?

Guns and more
I suggest a H&K P-30. Interchangeable grip panels to make it easy for smaller hands, easy racking of slide, great quality. Mine has never had a misfire. It has a decocker so it can be fired with the hammer down in the de-cocked position.
I like all my handguns for different reasons, but my P-30 would be the last to go.

The better half fell in love with my 239 so much I had to get her one (gen 2 with wood grips (super comfy), short trigger and short reset trigger). She sleeps with one with an extended mag and keeps several extended mags spread around. She carries the short mags when she CC's (as do I - slides right into the pocket).

BTW, she's 5'1" and weighs about 110 -- so she's pretty small and claims the 239 is the best she's handled (we both shoot competitively, so she's shot quite a few others).
