H&K P2000 SK (sub-compact). It has interchangeable backstraps or a Glock 26.

Another vote for the PT-111 PRO even though it isn't made in the US.
12+1, exceptionally slim grip, nice light DA/SA trigger. Mine is exceptional. |

It probably makes more sense, but there are real world limits. With a handgun, it is locked in a Simplex push button safe in her craft room, where she usually is if I'm gone. Also, we are members of a local indoor range, and I have no trouble getting her to shoot twice a month. It's a lot harder to find a place to shoot a long gun around here.

I concur with the others that have stated the Sig P239. It's a great gun. I would also add even though it is not a da/sa one of the H&K P7 PSP that are floating around. They would also make an excellent choice IMHO.
