G26 or G36
So one of these will be my one and only firearm for the the next year or so but I can't decide which one. I like both calibers but I have to think about cost and availbility. Around my way there isnt much price difference between the .45 and 9mm. This pistol will be used for carry and home protection. I will also be teaching my fiancé to shoot as well.
Please fellow members help me make a choice! Thanks in advance! |

I've owned both and still have the G26 so that says something right there.
First , they are not in the same class, the G36 is a compact and the G26 in a sub compact. The G26 will be easier to conceal carry. The G26 also kicks less and would be better to teach a new shooter with IMO

I have both and carry my G36 A LOT more than the G26. There is no significant difference in size between the two, so don't let that influence you.
For me, the G36 is an easier gun to shoot than the G26. Less muzzle flip, easier to bring back on target, etc. There isn't a noticeable difference in weight between the two, either. I have +1 grip extensions on the mags for the G26, so it's a little harder to conceal than a standard G26. The mag extensions give you a better grip, so in my eyes it's worth the trade off. I carry the G36 in a High Noon Public Secret IWB holster, and the G26 in a High Noon Down Under IWB holster. Both work well for my body shape and mode of dress. It really comes down to this; do you want the stopping power of a .45 with less rounds, or do you prefer a little less stopping power and more rounds. If I had to choose between the two, I'd keep the G36. |

I think either would be great. Buy the one that gives you the better deal, financially. One little plug for the G26; you can use higher capacity G17 mags in it.

Personally I would go with the 26 because you can use the high cap mags. While 6 rounds of .45 is great I personally would want more rounds then that if faced with more then one attacker either on the street or in my home.

Why not compromise and get the G 27? The .40 is the happy medium between the 9mm and .45, and right now .40 ammo is plentiful. I can shoot my 27 as accurately as my full size Glock 22.
One more to consider since you are limited to one gun, how about the G 23? Concealable, yet comfortable at the range.

For carry and for teaching? I would not use either one. I would go with a G19.
Of the two choices - I like my G36 for it's thin profile and superb pointing (for me anyway). Just my $.02. Hope it helps. Good luck.

+1 for the G36, not much difference in the conceal-ability of either one, but the authority of the .45 caliber is worth the reduction in capacity, at least for me it is.... Good luck.

I would say without a doubt, a G36...until you add the teaching the new shooter part...The 26 would be easier to teach a new shooter, especially if she has small hands...I would also consider the G19, the slightly longer grip and barrel would make things easier for a newer shooter...
