I need 2 slide belt holsters for the ccw class we are taking. I am not planning on carrying in this fashion very often and am trying to figure out what direction to head. CCW class has criteria that the trigger guard must be covered. I am trying to keep the price down.

Uncle Mike's holsters are about as cheap as you will find with quality.
I have the Uncle Mike OWB kydex paddle for Glock 22 with 2 kydex ammo pouches to use in a combat pistol class and low light class in September. They were approx $20 each.

Alright, I think I have the solution for you. I just got in a shipment from Wilderness Tactical today and received a Zip Slide holster, Wilderness 5 stitch "original" Instructors belt, single stack mag pouch (horizontal) and a multi tool/light/mag pouch (horizontal).

I have been playing with them today and looking at the quality of the products and I have to tell you I am pretty impressed with all four products.

I bought the Zip Slide holster and Instructor's belt for some classes I have coming up and after putting them on today have no doubt these are perfect for training or at the range. The mag pouch and multi tool pouch are for my everyday carry.

If you are using the Glock and Kahr in your avatar for your class the Zip Slide will work with both. The Zip Slide holster uses a pressure secure retention with molded pressure points to hold your weapon in place. When you take the Glock out and use the Kahr this design will mold right to the Kahr and hold it as secure a the Glock you just had in it.

Some here were saying that they didn't like the holster because of the front site snagging the holster when drawing. I have found this to be false! I drew my weapon at least 50 times today with ZERO snag’s. I did however play around with it to see if I could get it to snag and if I pushed backwards on my gun and then drew my weapon it would snag a bit. A normal draw will not, I promise you.

I believe this is your answer to what you are looking for, it's a decent price at $39.95 and will take the place of two holsters.

I plan on doing a full review of the Wilderness products I ordered after wearing and using them for a week or so to make sure nothing changes of my initial reaction and findings to these products.

Can someone explain why an instructor would not insist that a student use the holster they plan to carry with?

I can well understand not wanting to let people endanger themselves or others by using a rig that the instructor feels is unsafe, but to insist on a holster that the student doesn't intend to use for everyday carry doesn't sound right to me.

I'm sure there's more to this than the original post went into, but I am curious.

I don't know about in general, but in my case, I'll be taking a class late next month taught by a nationally recognized self defense instruction agency. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a holster till I know more. I won't know more till I take the class. Chicken and egg. What to do?

I bought a cheap FOBUS paddle holster that I can use for both the class, and because it meets the requirements, for Action Pistol shooting at the local club - I used it for that last wekend in fact. I also bought a FOBUS dual magazine carrier.

After the class, I'll have more knowledge, and perhaps a better idea of what my long term carry piece will be (the G19 is only good for winter here - I'm thinking it needs to be supplemented by a PM9). It would be really dissapointing if the instructor insisted I had to know it all and make an even more significant investment before I could take the class (which costs $300.00 by itself plus 600 rounds of ammo).

I'd like to keep the "holster box" as small as I reasonably can.

The most embarrassing moment of my LIFE came as a result of wearing such a holster. Any time the barrel is exposed below the leather or kydex and there is no thumb break you'll run this risk:

I was wearing a fine YAQUI SLIDE under a tuxedo to a fancy dress charity dinner about 15 years ago. The mayor was there...the chief of police and lots of other minor officials. This is my wife's charity gig, I'm just here for the food.

I sit down to dinner (the event is being held in a huge downtown law office on the 30th floor or something) and as I ease into the plush chair my barrel neatly touches the arm of the chair. So as I sink the gun is smoothly sliding UPward! My nice little 45 Officer's Model hits the hardwood floor with a loud THUNK!! All talk all over the room instantly ceased and all attention was fixed on me. OMG.

I just reholstered and kept eating. I do that rather well. Nobody said a word. But later when we got up to leave, 40 folks got up to leave, too! I spent quite a long time escorting folks to their cars, nice guy that I am. I did get some CCW classes out of it...and I swore to never EVER again wear a slide holster. If you're going to get one of these, make sure you have a thumb break to go along with it. I'd recommend you get a full cover Don Hume or DeSantis. Should cost about the same. That way you can go open top. I think gunnersalley.com has some great prices on these rigs.

Mad Mike, I'm in a profession that does not allow me to conceal in the waistband. I have to use a conceal T or Kangaroo type holster. I'm in button down shirts tucked and thin slacks everyday. I suppose I could use a smart carry/thunderware, but I'm just not a fan of my gun being in that area. The instructor wants everyone in the range to be holstered in the same fashion for safety reasons because you have true beginners in the class. In his opinion, this is just the first class you need to take for your permit and safety. They feel you need follow up classes for true tactical training such as Front Sight Firearms Training Institute or a qualified instructor.
