Concealment options.

I own a springfield Xd-40 service model. its not a HUGE gun but its definaltey not small. I currently am using an Uncle Mikes IWB holster . no strap just sits in there. Im a decently large framed guy and with this holser on my side its apparent im carrying unless im wearing a hooded sweatshirt or coat. I am able to fully conceal the weapon in the front of my pants right above my crotch, but its makes me feel like a "gang banger" and i dont like it. i have been looking at shoulder holsters lately because im often wearing a zip up hooded sweater when out in public. I really want a BLACKHAWK! serpa holster but they do not make it for my gun in a left handed model, bummer i know.
Any suggestions?

Fist, Inc...

All my holsters are from Fist, Inc...search them out. I just bought a great shoulder rig from them. There are lots of good holster makers...some on this site...I like Fist.
One almost has to try looking around...you wouldn't let someone but your shoes for you...would you?
Good luck searching!

You live in Tacoma? Try Greg Kramer, he is from Seattle and make awesome rigs and yes even for southpaws! His prices aren't bad and delivery is usually just a couple of weeks. http://www.kramerleather.com

With the right holster I'm betting you can conceal you XD just fine. Just remember a good rig may not be cheap but will be worth every dime in the end! Just like guns some folks just never seem to own enough though, hehe......

If you like an OWB holster & want better concealment go with leather. Kydex or plastic is wider & does not conform to your body like a good leather one will.

Another alternative is a IWB, they conceal better, but may not be as comfortable.

Man...did you ask the right question on the right board or what?

Gary makes this for the XD...

Matt Del Fatti makes these....

I make this, this one is with shark and is for an XD SC.......

Mark Garrity jumps in here now and then, as do plenty of other quality makers........Id say the hardest part is choosing what you want and whom will make it.

Shoot well and god bless

In addition to the custom makers, there are many mass-production manufacturers that turn out a good product.

I've had lots of success with the Galco Miami Classic shoulder rig, a Bianchi 3-slot OWB and the DeSantis inner Piece IWB.

My advice would be to use mass produced holsters until you know what you like, dislike and want in a holster... THEN buy a custom job that's exactly right for you.

IWB and loose t shirts worked for me concealing my HK USP F for a few years. Try buying a few larger sizer shirts. Also a good holster does help hide a pistol.
