novice leatherworker and holsters

Hello,
I love tinkering, and also being self-reliant. I made an IWB holster out of leather (if I recall it was 6-8 ounce, vegetable tanned cowhide. Wet and molded to my pistol). Rough side is on the inside. I love it, it is comfortable and functional. I carry a Kimber full sized Target II in it. However it sucks the oil off my pistol, dries it right up. I worry a little that long-term this might not be great for the pistol, (body moisture, etc). What do you you guys do? Should I oil the leather? Line the next one I make? Any thoughts are appreciated.
( I did use a web-site photo for ideas for the holster. Hope I have not infinged on anyones patents!? By no stretch of the imagination do I have any "commercial" intentions with my leatherwork!)

can't help you, but can we see a picture of it? I'm a tinkerer myself, except I usually break whatever I tinker with so I like to see others that are more successful than I....

Don't worry, I made about 4 kydex holsters for my Hk once. One works pretty good actually, the rest....didn't....the one that works still looks like a Glock took a dump on my Hk though...

Thumbs up

Hi bentip
It's great that you're making your own holsters.
I'm sure that you got a great amount of satisfaction from making your own carry rig.
I don't think that you can infringe on any patent rights if you copy any design of anything for your own private and personal use.

Ditto - don't be afraid to show the rig.

Our rig afficionados can probably answer your main questions.

I am new to this forum. How do I post a photo if I now have one downloaded onto my desktop? I did not find the answere to this in FAQs. I see there is a button to go to a URL, but I don't think that will help me.

Easiest is to attach - look below the message posting window next time - and observe ''manage attachments'' . You'' get a new window open and then browse to where your pic is and upload it - it will appear as a thumbnail we can click on. Not too big tho if possible - 640x480 and 50k to 100k is good to aim for.

Otherwsie - upload a pic to a hosting site like Imageshack, photobucket - and link to that url within ''img'' tags
