Captain Crunch

After an agonizingly long wait (actually, it wasn't that long; it just seemed like it, after all, Gary was laid up with a back ailment for a while), I received my Max-Con V holster for my Colt Commander.

Having high expectations of finding a top quality product packed inside the box filled with shredded newsprint (my cat loved that), I wasn't disappointed. In fact, I was greatly impressed.

The finish, the stitching, the edging & the boning, all are flawlessly done. The belt loops are tight (this is a good thing) and the snaps are solid. It's a Service Grade, but I'll be darned if I can find a blemish on it. OK, if I have to nit-pick, the rear belt loop is about a sixteenth of an inch longer than the front loop.





I've worn the holster for a week now, which includes four 12 hour days, and I can honestly find no fault with it. It required minimal break-in, in fact, the wax paper treatment wasn't necessary at all. Re-holstering is effortless.

Comfort is a subjective notion, of course, but I'm impressed with the comfort of the Max-Con for two primary reasons: The fore and aft belt loops spread out the weight of the pistol & holster, while reducing bulk and enhancing concealability. This is a marked improvement over my now retired Sparks Summer Special, which positioned the belt loops over the pistol. Secondly, the "bat wing" extension on the bottom of the holster is intended, with use, to conform to the wearer's anatomy. It works extremely well, and it also insures that the holster is in the exact same position every time it's put on. For me, this puts my pistol at the 3:30 position, and pretty much eliminates printing.



There are two more features of the Max-Con that I really like. One is the closed muzzle (prevents lint in the barrel) and the other is the moulded in sight channel. This prevents little leather fuzz-balls clinging to the front sight on the draw.

Do I like the Max-Con V? You bet I do. Would I recommend it to others? Absolutely.

A final note. Even though this is a Service Grade, at my request, Gary did some extra detail work on the sweat guard to fit my Commander's extended thumb safety. This is a service that you just won't get from the mass producers. Little things like this are what sets the custom makers apart from the rest of the herd.

The rear belt loop is longer to allow the holster to rock forward when sitting to aid in the draw... I think!!!

Glad you like your new gear. It sounds wonderful in every respect. I've got some stuff on order from Gary and can't wait for it to arrive. Hopefully it won't be too long now.

One bad thing about garys holsters

If you take them off and lay them down you cant find them again


I took mine off with belt washed the pants they were on

I can find the belt in the same spot i remember leaving it as for the holster well still cant find it been almost 2 weeks

I bought an IWB holster for my S&W 442 about a year and a half ago and I'll be damned if it isn't the best concealed carry I have. That little snub nose basically disappears! I'm trying out my H&K P2000 and it's night and day while trying to conceal. I can hide the H&K with my Galco but the Gary holster simply makes my snubbie non-existant. Quality is top notch and reliability is second to none, get one and you won't be sorry...
