Even though I have a few "C.S. Osborne SLOT Punches" I decided NOT to use them on this holster since they are fairly expensive for a novice to buy. I punched four round holes slightly over my belt width & "connected the dots" using a plain, ordinary Single Edge Razor Blade...held vertical to the holster and then tapped down straight into the leather with a mallet. A VERY EASY and inexpensive way to cut decent (& at least neat looking slots) without chancing any Whoops! cuts.

Nice looking holster. I'm off to find some leather tools.

QK, that is a great looking holster. I'd like to see the backside and the edges. Exotic leathers are so good looking on holsters. I had a friend in New Orleans who had at one time been a mercenary in southern Africa (he never said where exactly) and he had bought several pairs of elephant hide boots. I saw him practically every day for 6 years and I never saw any wear in the boots. They looked just the same after 6 years as they did the day I first saw them. In the Army one of my company commanders had served as a liaison officer with an Australian unit. During his time he had managed to get a pair of kangaroo hide boots. They did not wear as long as the elephant ones the guy in NO had but they were so comfortable and did wear for a very long time.
Keep up the good work I expect to see some ivory handle on something in an elephant hide holster. ![]()

VERY, VERY NICE! It must be very satisfying to do something that turns out so well. I made a knife sheath once; at least that is what it was supposed to be. No one else thought so...

I might have to think about doing this for myself one of these days - I always liked craft kits as a kid. Where did you source your leather? Online?

That is a very nice holster. I would have to say you put alot of effort and workmanship into that one.

Very nice! I'd love to try something like this but am very un-mechanical/skilled. I'd mess it up for sure. :(
Some pictures of the back and inside if possible would be nice. (hint, hint)

Lovely job QK - and looks to me to have just the right ride height and cant.
Very satisfying to make a rig for oneself - particularly here as you did the whole deal. I did and enjoyed some leather work many years ago but confess I had help from a leatherworking buddy for stitching etc. For those who may not have seen the pics before - here they are - rigs actually for range use but with ''cowboy flavor''. The first one was for my M27 5" - and in fact the holster on the belt is the cross draw version so should be round other side - the unattached holster is the normal strong side version. The other rig was for my original Redhawk. ![]() ![]()
