I'm a runner. I usually do small of the back carry, unless my outfit allows for a pocket carry. It's easiest to conceal with light weight garmets that I won't over heat wearing. It doesn't get in the way of my legs, arms, or breathing, and though it may not be the greatest of choices for quick draw, it beats the crap out of having no gun at all. I'm also religious about carrying my cell phone with me as well. I don't want to be three miles from civilization and not having a means of contacting any authorities, whether I've had to use my gun or not. Can never be too safe.
I don't think I would do small of the back for biking, however. After thinking about it for a few minutes, I'm not sure what I would do. Hmmm... I'll think more on it when I decide I want to bike instead of run. ![]() |

I run a couple of times a week and use a belly band to carry a S&W J frame or Kahr PM9. Depending on the time of day (hours of darkness) I may also have a Surefire, folding knife, and always a spare mag or speedstrip. Carrying a full size gun maybe a little more difficult using the belly band, but I know the smaller weapons work great. Plus it helps keep my gut in a little. :) Matter of fact I'm thinking of taking my Shepherd running right now. Good luck.

I dont care what the purpose I would never carry a weapon in the small of my back anywhere near my spine. I know personally of an officer who wishes he could run, but does a great job with his wheelchair. Yes he was carrying his S&W 3913 in a small of the back holster and slipped and fell landing on his back. That was all it took.
If I wasnt going to use a chest rig I might look at a rig like this one http://www.holsterss.com/servlet/the...r-belly/Detail but wear it on my belly with the gun but facing my strong hand. There is a company out there that makes that type of rig out of spandex and I use to have one but for the life of me I cant remember the name or find their website. It worked real well with a snubby on my belly while I ran. For bicycling I would use a belly band under an untucked t-shirt when we would ride around neighborhoods out of uniform but other than my bicycle patrol days I'm not much for bicycles.

Well, I did go running with my Shepherd earlier after I posted. Took my Kahr, spare mag, benchmade knife, house keys, and CHL with me. Did about 2 1/2 - 3 miles with no problems. Nothing moved while running. I think this is about the best way to go, but something else may work for you better.
