Holster for running/bike riding
OK, I decided: 2007 is the year I'm getting into shape which means amongst other things, running and riding my bike. Now I'm at a loss as to what to get that would work. My choices of carry guns are 4" 1911 (all steel) or XD SC. Oh yeah: fanny pack is out of the question, so don't even suggest it. Anything else that would make sense?

I haven't went biking in my Smartcarry, but have worn it jogging.
I only carry a snubbie or .380 so I don't know if it will work for a larger pistol

Hello,
This is only my second entry on combatcarry, but I'm interested in this thread. I bike ride a lot during the summer months and I've been wondering how to conceal my G23 during a ride. Is anyone else faced with this? |

Try a fanny pack attched to the bike seat. this will keep your gun from getting sweaty

I jog on a treadmill in the firehouse where no one has access but Firemen and Police Officers, so I just leave my weapon in a bag right next to the treadmill.
When I used to jog outside, I would wear a sweatsuit and underneath the shirt I would wear a belt with an OWB holster and two keepers, one in front and one behind the holster to prevent it from sliding around. Obviously because there are no belt loops on the sweatpants to keep the holster in place. Keepers are what LEOS use to keep the gunbelt attached to the trouser belt. They are usually about seven inches long and have two snaps to allow for different size belts. You can order them from Galls. It looks silly, but your sweatshirt will cover it and it is quite effective and comfortable. Good luck.

I use the same type of t-shirt holster that I use daily. A little slower to draw but it stays put. I also have a chest rig made by Survival Sheaths http://www.survivalsheath.com/holsters/index.htm and it works good. Dont like the fanny pack for running as it kind'a bumps parts of me I dont like being bumped, but they work well for cycling.

I bike a lot on a low racer recumbent and wear the tight fighting, sweat wicking stuff. If you happen to like very fast bikes look here...
http://www.zoxbikes.com/ I have a z frame 20" As to carry, it's a real compromise. I adapted a small pouch to the right side of the recumbents seat and carry a S&W 638 snubbie in it, on body is just not possible. Running ain't happening on my knees so I can't offer ideas there!

Mountain biking
I use a Wilderness safe packer for mountain biking. If you can wear your gun belt while riding your bike, it will ride nicely at 6 o'clock, out of the way, weight were it needs to be. However, if I am off road in rought terrain, like a single track, I find a belt very uncomfortable and almost impossible to wear. I attached the safe packer to my cross tube and my down tube with some extra Velcro straps. Weight in the center, protects the gun from mud and water. Its not waterproof so if you lay your bike down in a stream or mud bog, you will be cleaning.... Make sure you seal your permit and credentials in a ziplock. It will also fit in the safepacker. Its also nice to have the gun attached to your bike incase you take a fall. I couldn't imagine landing on my 1911 commander. That would hurt.....
